I went to a WAGS today, not my usual one and was able to use the coupon by handing it to the cashier first and then my other coupons. So it turned out to be a better day than I thought as I saved that extra five dollars. Sorry your WAGS did not take the coupon off first.
I just did this twice in the last two days and they took it first and then I handed them my Q's. There is a WAGS by me that I won't go to due to problems everytime I go. I just found another one and they have been great. My husband does not understand what the big deal is as WAGS gets their money back from the manufacturers. They are NOT loosing money. It is bringing people in to spend their money. They should not be complaining and making it so difficult.
One of my good wags cashiers told me once to give her the Walgreens coupons first, then the manufacturer ones and then the RRs. She was wonderful and totally into people who use Coupons.
(she's on my Christmas list!)

A penny saved was not a good sale....
I did the samething, $5/$20 first, then pulled out Q's then pulled out RR. Cashier said RR would not work, because they are to be done first, but she tried and they did. With Q's and RR I had $22 and some change and OOP was $1.00.
My WAGS registers will beep at the cashier if I use the 5/20 then with the other coupons the total falls below 20. The register will actually take the coupon off it that happens.
I've had cashiers tell me to hand in the big q first. I've also had cashiers not let me do it that way. I tend to shop on the safe side expecting the latter to happen.
