Default First Walgreens trip using RR's

I've been couponing a long time, but never shopped Wag's RR deals. So I got my q's together and tried it today. Everthing went ok until the cashier, (Vickie...God bless her) couldn't get my $5/1 to come off the Tylenol Precise. I had 3 Precise @ $4.99 - 2/$5 off 1, plus the $3 Wags Q and a $2/1 from an insert. She told me I didn't have enough of a total to use the third Q, so I started adding candy and it finally took the coupon. She siad she couldn't adjust it down to the price of the Tylenol. I was ready to just have her take the Precise off, but she told me to try adding in the Werthers candy I was buying to bring the total up.

Second problem: 8 Gum @ $1 each. I had 1 coupon for $1/2, and 3 q's for BOGO, and a Wags Q for .50 off one. So I should have gotten 7 @ .50 and one free if I figured right. So only one of my BOGO q's worked and the other 2 wouldn't come off. Between the two us us we were so confused neither one could figure out why. I was ready to just scrap the gum deal too, but she finally just gave me back my 2 q's and told me she was just going to give me 2 gums free. My receipt is so confusing I can't make heads or tails out of it. Can someone tell me if I figured the gum right?

The only smoothe transactions were the Garnier hair products and the Gillette and Old Spice body washes.

I felt bad for Vickie trying to sort all that out. I doubt I will ever do Wags again.

And just for the record, I wasn't trying to get overage on the Precise, or use the coupon incorectly. I figured they would adjust down to the price.

I am just learning WAGS. I do separate transactions for any products that give RR. I am too paranoid to lose them. You cannot have more MFG coupons than number of products, using RR count as a MFQ, so that's where the caramels come in. I give them my coupons in order, In-store, MFG, the RR. So far it's working. Well, I did get burned on my Q-tips. I added one t0o many caramels and so my bill was .63 cents inc . tax. should have been .24 cents.

What I need to know is this: are there any cheaper fillers I can use besides caramels?

I always check the clearance area. There can be candy, soap bars, etc. for 10 cents or under sometimes. You can also get holiday pencils (usually 12 or 16 cents each), pudding or Jello with in-ad coupon for 20 cents, pocket tissues for 29 cents, etc.

Thanks for tip!! The pencils and tissue would definitely get used. Otherwise, I am going to be in good shape when making caramel apples!!
