About a year and half ago, I read a business book written by Jim Collins called Good to Great.
In this book, Collins gave examples of great companies, based on their performance in the stock market. Collins says that Walgreens is a great company. Here is something that I totally ripped off of Collins' website, word for word: "Take Walgreens. For more than 40 years, Walgreens was no more than an average company, tracking the general market. Then in 1975 (out of the blue!) Walgreens began to climb. And climb. And climb. It just kept climbing. From December 31, 1975, to January 1, 2000, $1 invested in Walgreens beat $1 invested in Intel by nearly two times, General Electric by nearly five times, and Coca-Cola by nearly eight times. It beat the general stock market by more than 15 times. I asked a key Walgreens executive to pinpoint when the good-to-great transformation happened. His answer: “Sometime between 1971 and 1980.” (Well, that certainly narrows it down!) Walgreens’s experience is the norm for good-to-great performers." Overall, Collins writes a very good and interesting book that ties in leadership lessons with case studies. I would recommend the book to anyone looking to read a business or leadership book. What do you think of Wags as a company? Last edited by clovis; 09-14-2009 at 10:45 PM. |

HAHA, I was posting when some friends stopped by. Anyhow, I have had very good luck and pleasant shopping experiences myself. I had one small issue where the cashier at the beauty counter tried dipping my RR's, I made the Manager review the tape.................this is not my typical store and what URKED me more then anything, I always offered this girl some of my scores. I even bought her a small gift on her Bday. Needless to say, I don't shop that store anymore. THERE LOSS!
My one store I do go to, typically on Saturday night, I recently sent nice compliments about the Manager and the two young kids who worked there as well. The head manager called me to thank me for such nice compliments. Also, because of my Husbands illness, I had like 60, maybe 80 bucks in RR's expire and they allowed me to come in and shop to use them up. I thought this was realy cool, honest and upfront. It pays No complaints from me HAPPY HAPPY.

I don't mind Wags, I've never really had a problem with my cosmetics cashier, it's others that work there. I really just prefer CVS. Their ECB program is so much easier and less confusing than Wags RR's so I don't bother with the RR things. If there are enough items I need stacking IVCs and MQs then I'll stop, otherwise, my car points to CVS. On it's own, I tell ya

I have a few Wags in my area, and the only one I will frequently visit is about 20 minutes from me. I have sent raving reviews to corp. about this store and one of the cashiers. She's always commenting on my binder and calls me the Coupon Lady
The other Wags is not as friendly and a pain in the bum to get in and out of!

I've always liked Walgreens.....shopped there for many years when I refused to step into a CVS. I have lived all over the US (in 30 years and 33 moves you tend to hit quite a few States) and have always had friendly service and found what I needed at Walgreens.
One thing especially that kept me as a Walgreens shopper. As the mother of an out of state college student 8 years ago I appreciated their Easy Pay system when CVS refused to do so.

I've had less than stellar results with Walgreens and they have fallen to the bottom of my list for places to shop. RR's expire too quickly. I can get prescriptions cheaper at 3 other stores. For our family their prescription savings plan was a joke. Too many cashiers don't know coupon policy. Oh wait, they don't have a coupon policy per se. How is that a good company when rules change from day to day and store to store?

where they have my credit card on file and my son (or daughter) can get their prescriptions and OTC items and have it charged to my acct.....
For instance: the time he got back from Morocco and had a $299 prescription for a bug he picked up over there......I didn't have to worry about him not having the proper medical care (and neither did he as he was freaking out!)
