Default Wags/rebate ending...the reason???

I have made fast friends with the asst manag of my local wags...she is wonderful. Today on my trip we were discussing the reason why rebating at wags may end. She told me that the reason she understands is because...since you can rebate online now and keep your receipt...people are claiming their rebate online and then returning the item for the cash! So I can why they are choosing to end the program. Dont know if this information is 100% but I believe her it makes perfect sense. Just wanted to pass on a lil info hth!!

If that is the reason why notjust take away the online option? Simple solution there....seems to me they are wanting to end the program...period.

I thought the receipt # would become invalid online if you return the item? Seems strange to me. Well, if the receipt # doesn't keep that close track, shame on those people for doing that!

I'll admit, I had a receipt that this happened to me on. I didn't plan on returning the item, but there was a better deal the next week that I didn't know about so I returned the ones on the receipt that I had put into the system and purchased the item again at the lower rate.

I put the second receipt into the system, because I figured the first receipt would be invalidated. They scan the receipt when you return an item, it would make sense that it would invalidate a returned rebated item, but it didn't. It was a limit one so the receipt where I had repurchased never showed up.

Though I wasn't trying to get one over on them I can see how there are people who might try. But the fact that it can happen seems a bit strange to me. I would expect that there must be some way to fix this flaw in their system, especially since they scan the receipt when an item is returned.

Just my two sense!

She also informed me that walgreens still accepts returns without receipts so this may lead to part of the problem.

I agree with Lucy. They could fix the rebate system if they wanted to... they're just using this as an excuse to end the program. I haven't seen anything official, so I'm still holding out hope that it won't end!

Seems like it ought to be an easy programming fix on their end. and if someone did do a final submission before for the rebate before returning the item, they could deduct the overage from future rebate submissions. If people could only get away with it once, they'd probably stop bothering trying to scam on the rebates.

I asked a cashier at my Walgreens about this last week. She said that as far as she knew, they weren't going to stop the system, but they were going to change it. She gave the same reason though, that people were abusing the system by buying the item, turning in the receipt for rebate, and then returning the item, getting paid twice.
