Talking (Guide) How To Shop at Wal-Mart

Many of you may know that Wal-Mart is considered a discount store, and like to offer every day low prices, as well as rollback items. However...did you know that it is possible to save even more by using the CouponMom system? Here are my best tips:

1. Wal-Mart will price match competing ads. It is your responsibility to take the ad with you. The product(s) that Wal-Mart sells must be the exact same size/quanitity advertised within the ad, in order for Wal-Mart to honor it.

2. The ads must be for a valid date. Your Wal-Mart cashiers will check for this....I promise...so make sure that it is for a valid (dated ad)

3. You can also create your online shopping lists...Print it and take it to the store. Again....there must be a valid sale date on your online ad in order for Wal-Mart to honor it. In the area, that I am in....Wal-Mart will honor online ads within a 50 mile radius only.

4. "Can I use coupons on top of Wal-Mart's Price Match?" My experience has been....yes....you most certainly may!!

5. Did you know that Wal-Mart will also price match on Produce and Meat?
It is true. When it comes to meat....Take your ad to Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart doesn't require the exact same manufacturer on the meat....However, they will require the exact same cut of meat.

For an example: If Ingles is selling Sanderson Farms split chicken breasts @ .88/lb. For practical reasons, and since Wal-Mart is closer to me....I can take the ad to Wal-Mart and buy Tyson split chicken breasts....use my ad, and get the .88/lb price that Ingles advertised.

6. Wal-Mart will not honor BOGO ads.

Overall....by using the strategic shopping prinicples taught by the CouponMom system....and by knowing Wal-mart's price match policy....this is a huge time saver, and practically eliminates the need to go to mulitple stores during the week.

Saving tons of time and money on gas? Priceless.

HTH someone.

Still curious as whether they will honor the sale price reflected from the use of a store coupon.

Like this week, there is a store within 30 miles of me that has an in-store ad coupon making a 3lb. bag of Sunchef boneless skinless chicken $2.99.

Is this something I could price match with something comparable?

I answered your post where you just asked that question.....I am not familiar with Dominicks or their ads for that matter, but with my stores...I have found that if it is advertised in an ad...then yes, Wal-Mart will honor it. In regards to the store coupon price question, what I would do in your situation is to ask for a CSM (customer service manager) show them the ad, and they will be able to tell you right then and there. HTH.

Here are some more tips, in my experience, that make it easier to do:

If you are using multiple sales fliers, segregate your cart (or take hubby with you and have him hold the other stores' items in different places in a separate cart--i.e., Harris Teeter in the top, Food Lion in the front-left, Kroger front-right, etc.).

Place the items on the belt with each other and place the sales flier before each store's items. That way, the cashier can reference the items quickly and neither one of you become confused to death on what came from what store.

Carry a big red marker with you and circle the items you want price-matched so they are easy to see/find. (Don't do the circling before-hand or, if you do, cross it out if you find WM's price is already lower.) Circle the sale date on the flier too.

Know the math. For example, if an item is on sale at Food Lion 3 for $5, you need to know that it works out to $1.67 each--because the cashier isn't likely to figure it out for you and the price they come up with is often higher.

For any store (not just Walmart) if you have a coupon that is BOGO, put those items on LAST because the cashier will spend an untold amount of time having to look up the price on the tape. It is much easier to ring, note the price, and move on, than ring everything up and try to look up information on the tape.

The people standing behind you will thank you.

Lastly, if you are using more than 40 coupons or have more than one sales flier to match, please let the people behind you know and let the cashier know as well. That way, the CSR can already know they need to visit (instead of being paged after all the ringing is done resulting in more time wasted) and the people who are standing behind you are prepared to either wait it out gracefully or find another line.

I've also printed out (using CM's Vista Print link for free business cards and discounts) cute little cards that have the websites on them that I use and my email. It's very easy to hand over the card if someone asks--which I find happens ALOT.

And if people behind you are grumbling, I took a tip from another shopper here and search through my stash to find coupons for items that are in their cart. Hey, everyone likes to save a little money!

Default BOGO ad match

I am not sure about other Walmart's but the one I work at will honor BOGO ad match as long as in the ad it says a price. For example BOGO candy at Bi-lo save $.79 on two.The cashier at Walmart would then ring first one up at
.40 and the second at .39.I cannot promise this will work at every Walmart but that is the policy at the one I work at.HTH
