Ill give you a shorter version of the post im going to write after I type this one. I live in a small community where all the bigger stores are 1 to 2 hours away. I emailed my walmart before i left and asked them that i would like to pm from stores where the only access i have to their flyers is online and that these stores are 2 or 3 hours away. The manager personally called and said that yes they would definitely do that for me!

Ok, first off I am going to apologize in advance for the length of this post, its just that there is so much confusion about pming and accepting coupons at walmart and I just made one of the longest, most complicated and most money saving trip of all time to walmart and i wanted to share as much info as possible about it.

how far away will they price match
i live in a small town where wm is an hour away and all the other bigger chain stores are 1 to 3 hours away. obviously i dont have all the flyers so i look up online every week for the best deals at all the stores. I emailed my walmart and called the 1 800 number before i left to check and told them that i do not have all the flyers for all the stores and i didnt want to print out 50 pages of flyers and that these stores were all hours away from me. The lady at the 1 800 number was super nice and said that and I quote " It states clearly in our price match policy that you do NOT HAVE TO HAVE THE FLYER in order to price match. She also said that if the cashier gave me any trouble to please call her from the checkout and she would take care of it!!! Woo Hoo!! Go customer service!! Then the manager from my local (1 hour away) walmart called and said that no problem he would price match those prices!
So going in I was excited as I had lots of super good deals to get. I price matched almost everything on my list ( which was almost 6 pages long) For example CVS had the John Frieda on sale for 5, i used my 5/5 coupons to get 10 bottles of john frieda for free!!! That would have been 97.00 alone without the price matchng and couopns!!
Secondly yes they price matched everything and took every store coupon i had and i had LOTS!!! I printed them off the internet from Meijers, Target, Family Dollar a few local stores, and some others.
I read a few places that they are not supposed to pm and accept a competitors store coupons, that that would be a form of " double dipping". Im sorry but i am here to say that that is simply untrue!! Matching a price and accepting a coupon are two seperate things!
For example Aldis had pineapple on sale for .99 which is a super hot price to begin with but then i found at meijer.com a coupon for .75 off one pineapple making them .25 cents each!!!!
I do agree that Walmart does need to make sure that the cashiers and the cms are properly trained on coupon and pm policy. I had a cm have to step in when my cashier had to leave and the cashier had to show her how to do the coupons!!!! not good
and since i had such a long list i broke it up into 4 different checkouts. i did my health and beauty first, hauled it out to the van, went back in and did non perishables and so on and so forth and with 4 or 5 different cashier there was 4 or 5 different ways they wanted it done . But the few times they tried to give me a problem i simply stated to them that i could call the 1 800 number as instructed by the friendly cs rep i had talked to earlier and boy did their tune change!!
all in all was price matching very time consuming ? yes for sure, is it impossible? definitely not was it worth the 687.00 in groceries that i only paid 160.00 for ? Absolutely!!!!
