Question Sliced Deli meat or pre-packaged

In my household we are not big deli meat, however sometimes a sandwich for lunch is fantastic.

Can anyone offer advice on which is better prepackaged or deli sliced meats and cheeses?

Also are there any brands you can suggest?

Any advice would help! Thank you!

I usually purchase pre-packaged Hillshire Farms or Oscar Mayer lunch meat, generally because I can get a better deal on them by combining coupons and store promotions. As for cheeses, I prefer Sargento, but often settle for Kraft as there are usually much better deals available for that.

If you do purchase from the deli case, I recommend that you ask for a sample of the product you are requesting. A: It's a great opportunity to try the product, especially if you haven't ever bought it before. B: I once ordered super sharp cheddar and came home with a cheap-tasting American cheese at the sharp cheddar price, so I always ask for a taste of the product just to be sure.

I read once that you can sometimes buy "ends" that are left on deli meat. I overheard the clerks talking about throwing them out. I was told it was company policy to throw them away because they have to uphold a certain standard of quality. Seemed like a huge waste to me especially since I was the one setting the standard for what I wanted. Maybe you can find these "ends" available at smaller stores, or even a butcher shop...but not Kroger, at least not in my area. Oh..and these are sold at a reduced price.

I love getting deli meat, but like others have said I usually wait and get great deals on the pre packaged. Dh its the stuff like crazy so I have to get it for cheap or he'd eat us out of house and home lol. I really like sara lee pre packaged. Its usually a little bit more and most stores keep it by the deli cases not with the other prepackaged meat. There have been some good qs and sales lately on The new cutting board turkey since its new and if you can find a great deal on it buy it because it is so so so delicious.
I have a new address so if we trade often PM me so I can update you
