Costco:
I don't buy as many items now that my family size is smaller, but these are items I purchase fairly often: blueberries (pretty much the only place they are semi-affordable) coffee beans or ground coffee rotisserie chicken fresh ground beef, fresh salmon, frozen chicken breasts books (great resource if you want a good price on something new) toilet paper/paper towels baby clothes (bought a new baby gift for my niece--three really cute outfits for less than $20) I agree their bakery is outstanding but usually avoid it so as not to have those items around. Their cupcakes look amazing but even with a 5.00 off coupon I let them go. Calories I shouldn't eat aren't a bargain. There are also now and then purchases or surprise finds that are good deals. I had decided I would pick up a new twin mattress for my son's bed if I could find a good deal and today found that Costco sells twin mattresses separately for only $149. So tomorrow my daughter and son-in-law (who have a truck) will be picking it up on their way over to surprise him. I also found a fire pit and lovely fountain for my backyard at Costco. Last but not least, love the snack bar. You can always treat your kids for very little OOP. 1.50 hot dog/soda deal is the best. |

I don't know if it's a federal law, or if it's state by state, but I know that in most states, pharmacies aren't allowed to only serve members only. when you buy at Sam's Club (at least here in Ohio), they don't scan your membership card when you purchase at the pharmacy. They scan a generic membership card for the register to ring you up, but they don't scan your actual membership card.
So, if you have a membership just for the prescriptions, and your Sam's Club (or Costco) doesn't scan your membership card, you can assume that your state doesn't allow member-only pharmacies. So you don't have to pay for your membership just for that. I am a Costco member, just because I love their produce and meat quality, but Sam's Club has a better cash price for Stratterra in their pharmacy. So I go to Sam's to get it even though I'm not a member. I do have my old expired card that I show to get in the door....but I'm pretty sure that even if I didn't have that, that they'd have to let me in if I told them I was going to the pharmacy...I just show them my old card though, just because I don't know if the greeter will be informed about the laws....but likely they are. They don't want to advertise this fact, because they'd rather people buy the membership if they assume they have to for the prescription price. |

We have a membership at Sam's Club -- used to have one at Costco but we to an area outside Charlotte NC and they're too far away.
Chicken breasts -- big frozen bags of them, good quality great price Coffee-- live on it - whole bean bags -- 2.5lb bag under $12 Produce - romaine lettuce hearts - 6 for about $4 -- salad for the whole week + Pepperoni slices, cheese, soda etc - always a good price if you can't find a great sale somewhere else. I don't buy a lot of bulk items there since i don't have kids but they have great prices and the membership price is usually worth it just for christmas, holidays etc. |

I don't have a card but my daughter does so I go with her once in a while. My favorite item so far is the 4 pk. of The Works toilet bowl cleaner since it is hard to get at my local Meijer and I just have to have it! My daughter thinks it is so funny to get excited over bowl cleaner...

Not a very common one for most people, but DH and I got the Fur Fighter hick-a-madoodle at BJs last week. Their regular price was $12.99. I had a $4.00 BJs Q along with a Man. Q. that I stacked--got it for $4.99. It came with the handle and 25 cleaning pads.

I have a day pass to BJ's and would love to hear any hints you might be able to give me. I've read the previous posts about what others are getting there at good prices. Stacking q's with BJ q's is okay I hear? Is it like at Sam's (long time ago was in Sam's) where the container sizes are all huge? Or do they have the regular grocery store sized items. I know I need to get my price book up to date with unit pricing so that I'll be aware if something is a good or bad deal. Do they have some items that are overpriced that you've noticed?
Thanks for anything you can fill me in on. |

My Mum and I share a BJ's membership, and for just what we save in gas alone, it pays for itself. We live in the next county (but real close by) and the difference in price per gallon by crossing the county line is anywhere from 10-25¢ per gallon. Mum gets her glasses there and gets better deals as well. I find the price on the Tyson frozen chicken tenderloins (I use lots of these) can't be touched anywhere else. And the rotisserie chickens are usually a pretty good price too. I've always liked that they'll take coupons... I remember making the trek monthly from Staten Isand over to NJ when DD was just a little thing (she's almost 18 now!) to get the best deals on baby food, wipes and diapers... and all the coupons they'd take on them.

For the most part I don't buy a lot of things there, we do hold a membership though, because the APC UPS that we have our computer plugged into that keeps us from crashing when we have power outages, is about $100 cheaper than anywhere else, which is also good, because we have a computer repair biz, and that helps us make more money and saves our customers more too.
