Okay....so I'm a little worried right now.
Last night I was looking on a website about a new coupon book called "The Everyday Coupon Book". It has over $500.00 worth of coupons for shopping and groceries. The link to buy it was Amazon.com. But knowing me I had to see if I could find it cheaper. So I found the book on HotBookSale.com. I ordered one for $7.84 plus $3.99 shipping. Little did I know that I was also signed up for a $20.00 a month membership fee. Never did I see or agree for this membership when checking out. The only reason I found out about the membership is because I called a friend about this deal and she looked up reviews for the website and they all came back negative. People were saying that their credit cards were charged and customer service was horrible. And that half of them never got their money back. So I called the 1-800 number last night and talked to someone who said that he would cancel my membership. I hope that they actually did this. My husband is going to kill me if they charge us for the membership. Has anyone ever gone through HotBookSale.com to order? Literally....this is making me sick to my stomach

Ok... call your credit card provider... tell them you think your card has been comprimised and have them cancel this one and send you a new set. Also tell them about the "membership" garbage and go back an copy any fine print to see if you did agree to this or not. You might be able to get your card to reverse the $20 charge.

Even if there was something in the fine print about the membership, you requested cancellation and were told that it would be cancelled. So you should still be able to dispute the charge through your credit card company if it does come through. Did you get the person's name that you talked to or a confirmation number or anything? Did they send an email confirmation of the original transaction? Maybe you can ask them for an email confirmation of the cancellation?

Something similar happened to us recently when ordering flowers via web site. I was using a promo code through a popular floral distributor and needed a funeral arrangement sent to NJ. I got the promo code to work and got a nice deal on the flowers but when my DH was checking his statement on line he noticed not one but two very strange charges to his account. After several phone calls he found out that in the fine print of the agreement there was the info regarding these two companies. They immediately credited his account and told me to be more careful next time. I mean, come on, who ever reads all that fine print agreement garbage anyway? He wasn't mad at me, but at the company and the scary part is we would have been charged the almost $20 fee two times a month if we didn't catch it and cancel it. WTH??? So, it does happen but you should have been credited any charges you were unaware of and your 'membership' canceled as requested.

Thanks to everyone who has responded to my post.
I do have a email confirmation saying my membership has been cancelled. So now I guess it's just a waiting game for my next credit card statement. If I do get charged for anything besides the book I bought I will call my credit card company and explain all the details. It really does make me sick that these companies do this. I believe they are taking advantage of people. But thank goodness there are people out there that post reviews and let others know what has happened to them in the past. |

So has anyone gotten the coupon book and is it worth it?
The reason I asked is the new People magazine is celebrating their 35th birthday and on the cover it says "$35 in coupons inside". I would not use any of them and it did not seem like there were $35 worth to me. |
