    Default Espresso Powder

    Hi all ~

I'm hoping you can help me out. Over the past year, I've found several recipes that i have bi-passed because it calls for Espresso Powder. I'd never even heard of it til then but now I'm on a mission to find it. Does anyone use it? where do I find it in the store? by the coffee? or in the baking isle? or someplace else?

I have a recipe for Chocolate Pudding and I like it, but I was just watching an episode of America's Test Kitchen and the recipe they have sounds really, really good but I need to get the Espresso Powder...

Espresso powder is just really finely ground coffee. If you have a coffee grinder you can just grind regular beans superfine. Or else Starbucks VIA instant coffee would work, but it is kind of expensive.

you can substitute any instant coffee granule - starbucks via since it's a stronger brew is probably one of the best substitutes. You should be able to find espresso powder in the coffee aisle with the instant coffees depending on your store's selection.

You can buy it online do a google search for espresso powder... I make my own with a coffee grinder and just grind the espresso beans until they look like cocoa would look.

OR, you can just take some of your own coffee beans into Starbucks, the store front, and have them grind it for you... that is, if you don't have a grinder. Ask for Turkish grind, it's the finest grind possible. You won't need very much, take it in a brown paper sack or a Tupperware container, and they do it for FREE.

OR, I could go to my Family Fare and buy 1/4 C strong coffee beans and have their machine grind it for me (in a Turkish Grind ). I didn't think about that one. Yay! Thanks for your suggestions, I also wasn't sure if Espresso Powder would be different than a ground up coffee bean, but I do appreciate all your help.

I know I can find answers with all of you smart gals and guys out there.

Does it have to be Starbucks brand? A friend of mine just came back from Hawaii and got me a huge bag of Kona whole bean coffee for my boyfriend but I do not have a coffee grinder???

Nope. We wouldn't do flavored coffee in our store though (like vanilla flovered beans or chocolate raspberry, etc). But that was quite a few years ago. Just know the grind that you want (cone filter, flat filter, french press, etc.)... you might buy a cup of coffee for their trouble though....or leave a small tip

    Kona beans! You lucky dog!!
