Default Ran out? Make your own.

We had fish tonight and I make my own tartar sauce. I'm sure many people buy it, but it's so easy to make. Just thought I'd share this simple recipe. Feel free to add your own to the thread.

Tartar sauce: Play around with the amounts of each ingredient until you get a mix you like.

Put some mayonaise in a bowl (1 cup)
add some mustard (1 tsp) and relish (1 tbls)
    stir....easy, huh?

1000 Island dressing: (just as easy)

same recipe as tartar sauce, but instead of mustard, add catsup. You can also add a little milk if it's too thick.

    One more...

    Cocktail sauce:

Put some catsup in a bowl. (1 cup)
add horseradish, (1-2 tbls per desired hotness)
you can also add hot sauce if wanted.
    stir

I thought of something else I make that's good. If you like Red Lobster's cheddar bay biscuits, this is pretty close.

Use Bisquick's biscuit recipe for drop biscuits. Add 1 Tbls garlic powder (or more to taste), and 1/2 cup sharp cheddar cheese. Bake as directed on box. Yummy and easy. Bisquick used to make a garlic cheese mix, but I haven't seen it in a long time. Has anyone seen it in the stores?

My tartar sauce recipe is Mayo/Miracle Whip and... brain fart, LOL! It's been so long that I've made it I can't remember if I use Dill relish or sweet relish, LOL! Just those 2 ingredients and my kids wouldn't eat store bought, they only wanted mine.

My ketchup recipe was not "normal" ketchup. I was on Michael Thurmans 6 week body makeover program, and you are sugar and salt restricted on it. Here is the 6WBMO recipe.

    6WBMO Ketchup

    1/2c white vinegar
    3/4 tsp whole cloves
3/4 inch cinnamon stick, broken into pieces
    1/2 tsp whole celery seed
    1 tsp onion powder
6oz can tomato paste (salt free)
    1 c water
    6 packets splenda

Combine vinegar, cloves, cinnamon, celery seed and onion powder in a covered pan. Bring to a boil. Remove from heat and steep 20 minutes or longer. Mix water and tomato paste in a sauce pan. Strain vinegar and discard spices. Add spiced vinegar to the tomato sauce. Simmer, stirring often, until the desired consistency is reached. Add sweetner and stir. Refrigerate.

A "normal" ketchup recipe would add 1/4 tsp of salt, use regular tomato paste, and substitute 1/4c brown sugar for the splenda.

I have always made my own tartar sauce, but never have put mustard in it. I will have to try that next time. Make my own cocktail sauce too.

My mom used to make tartar sauce, and I think she put hard-boiled egg in it. I'll have to try the "make your own" recipe. We've been buying tartar sauce at Aldi, and we go through lots of it.

BBQ sauce.......ketchup, vinegar, brown sugar, and a dash of mustard.......I just dump I do not measure. You can add dried onions, garlic powder, etc if you'd like.
