    Default Pork recipes

What kind of pork is best for making shredded pork for BBQ sandwiches? Is it the shoulder? I would appreciate help and any recipes that you may have or any pork recipes. We have had tooo much chicken around here lately. I need to change things up

I use boston butt. I put it in the crock pot with some seasoning and/or bbq sauce and let it slow cook all night and day. Enjoy!

Honestly I use whatever pork I have left over from a dinner. All of it tastes good IMO, but if you are buying a piece of meat to make shredded pork in the crockpot, I'd buy the cheapest cut of pork you can. The Crockpot will make it tender and whatever seasonings you use will enhance the flavor... I usually only use the meat and Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ sauce and it's always really good.

I have used pork loin recently (thanks Kroger!).

The first one was half a loin, cooked entirely in the crockpot, shredded, put back in crockpot with bbq sauce. Taste was excellent but the texture was like puree.

The second one was half a loin, oven roasted, shredded, put in crock pot with bbq sauce. Again the taste was excellent but this one had the correct texture.

My last two pork loins have been oven roasted as well. Half a loin, pan seared on all sides in virgin olive oil (added lemon & pepper, salt, pepper, garlic powder, chopped onion to the oil). Pan seared and oven roasted is to die for. Best pork I have ever had.

*oven roasted- 350 for 1.5 hours is too short, 350 for 2 hours is too long, so go about 1.75 hours
*the loins are about 4 lbs so half a loin is about 2 lbs.
*pan searing is on medium heat, 15-20 seconds on all sides

Shredded and bbq'd I serve with potato chips.
Pan seared and oven roasted gets served with mashed potatoes, green beans or corn, biscuits and salad. Sometimes gravy too.
