Default Holiday Cookie/Snacks recipes

Hello! I thought it might be fun to start listing our holiday cookies/snacks! I've got a few, but I need to go pull them out! Anyone want to post the first one? Or is there a certain recipe you would like to have?

Good idea.

I usually fly by the seat of my pants on what I bake. I know this year I'm adding butter pecan cookies, and a pina colada ball that I conjured up from another recipe if I can remember what I did.

Pumpkin pies at Thanksgiving of course---yuk---but DH loves. We eat very healthy most of the time buy Holidays are a time for treats.

And Kidz.....ah, do you need eggs for that baking? snicker snicker.

Does anyone know it the package sugar cookies are as good as homemade? I'd like to make some with my girls this yr, but the recipes for regular sugar cookies seem to take forever, b/c of having to sit in fridge for a while.

The Duncan Hines sugar cookie mixes are pretty good. Maybe add a splash of vanilla extract to help brighten them up a little. I find that I prefer frosted sugar cookies, and the recipes for the various frostings (if homemade) can give varying tastes as well.

When I was horrible at making cookies (they ended up like hocky pucks) I would go buy store bought cookies and frost them or dip one side in chocolate. It was quick and easy and seemed sorta special to the guests.

I'll probably do some sugar cookies. I had a recipe a couple of yrs ago for orange cream cookies. I'll have to go dig it up.

Yes, they work fine with cookie cutters. No matter the source of the dough, though, different cookie cutters give different results. I find the cutters that are hollow in the middle work the best, as opposed to the kind that are flat, solid, and only 1/8" deep.

Also a tip: I swear by baking cookies on a Silipat or similar silicone baking mat. No matter the type of cookie, nothing will stick to that. I hate having to grease up a cookie sheet. Dig up a coupon for Bed Bath and Beyond, and get one if you feel you will get the use out of it. They can usually be found for about $15 before discounts.
