I made this today. I started out with white morsels, but I cooked them too long and burned them.
So I made it with milk chocolate instead. I'll pick up some more morsels and try again soon. You can make this very cheap and place into little cellophane gift bags or tins for holiday gifts too.1 bag white morsels (nestle bogo at Publix 11/05-11/11) 24 unwrapped red and white mint candies ($1 for a 1 lb. bag at WM, enough for two batches or so) 1. Microwave the morsels on high about 45 seconds, stir, then another 30 seconds or so. Stir the morsels, a few can still be unmelted. 2. Place unwrapped candies in a plastic bag and crush with a hammer or rolling pin until fine, leaving a few chunky peices. Strain the powdery, smaller peices into the chocolate, stirring until combined. 3. Spread the chocolate onto a cookie sheet lined with wax paper into desired thickness. Sprinkle the rest of the crushed candies on top, pressing lightly into the chocolate. 4. Cool for an hour until set, or in fridge for faster results. Break into peices and enjoy!

One recipe I saw said you could use either peppermint or spearmint hard candies. The white chocolate is sweeter than the milk, or you could use semi-sweet. This stuff turned out GREAT! I might be handing this out as gifts this year.

GREAT Idea. Sounds easy and fun, it will be a great addition to my gift baskets. I was thinking I would have to buy some fancy chocolates to put in them, but I already have the morsels from the Kroger Mega sale.

This is my favorite to make, I actually use candy canes because I always have a ton of those at the holiday. A really yummy combination is the white chocolate with the cherry flavored canes (the candy cane with all the different colored stripes)!!! Such a great taste.

If you want some "fancy looking" ones you can get candy molds from michaels or hobby lobby and pour this into it. I make snowman shapes every year. Some times instead of the peppermint candy, I add just a drop of peppermint extract and make pure white snowmen.

Bethany that sounds cool! I never thought of using molds. I like to make fudge around Christmas and sometimes add peppermint extract. Every year I'm trying new things to make my family traditions.

Well i have a ton of molds and love using them, I just don't have the patience to do all the colors....all of mine are one color.
They are cool though. I use them for everything. I make them for party favors for my kids b-days, easter baskets, halloween candy ect. There are a ton of molds out there. Just be sure not to use regular food coloring if you want to color the candy, because it will cause it to seperate. You have to use candy coloring. It is an oil based coloring. You can find it at walmart in the cake decorating section. Or at hobby lobby or micheals. I've also used the "almand bark" stuff. It works great too. I've tried "candy melts" made by different makers, usually sold in the cake decorating are and in my opinion they are nasty. When I've used them no one will eat them. But anyway they are easy and it's little different thing to do, and easy enough for my kids to help with. |
