Leanna, I'm not sure how long this would last in the fridge. I think it would get eaten before the Holidays. It whips up so quick, I would rather make ahead like cookie dough to freeze, then make this one last minute. I've frozen small bits of soup before too, to see if it comes out ok. McKimba, I love the toffee bark idea. I grabbed 4 bags of morsels last night at Publix, maybe next time the white chocolate will come out better IE not burned.. I think I will do the double layer. I'm so glad I tried this, have you seen how expensive bags of this stuff can be? I think the same company that makes lindor truffles makes the bark, it was like $6 or $7 last year I remember. And its not like this stuff comes out looking weird, ya know when you're like "well that doesn't look like the picture" It looks great. Yesterday DS got into it and had eaten a bunch of it, there were smears of chocolate on this blanket he had. busted!

I'd love the opinions of better cooks I am - do you think this would work?
My DD and I did this last Valentine's Day and bagged it up for each classmate. We bought candy canes at the after-Christmas sale for about $.25/box. It turned out great!

If you freeze chocolate, you run the risk of it turning gray. Nothing wrong with it -- just doesn't look too appealing. If you package it up and store it in cool, dry place it should last for weeks. Chocolate chips/bars/candy last a long time on the shelf so HM candy should too as long as it isn't subjected to temperature extremes.

HTH,
Allison

Thank you for posting this recipe! I would like to know if anyone has made the dark chocolate version and how it turned out.

Thanks! I knew there must be bakers on here who would have good ideas about storing, freezing, etc. I think I will wait to make some of this until closer to the holidays, but am really looking forward to trying it! The toffee version sounds great, too.

I have a brownie mix in the house, so I think I will make crushed peppermint brownies to take to a party I'm attending tomorrow.

OK so I made the white chocolate version today. I'd have to say the milk turned out better. The white chocolate cools faster and the peppermint candies on top didn't stick as well as with the milk. Alot fell off when I broke it up. Maybe with the white I would mix all the candies in instead of leaving some to press in on top. Still very good!

Did you use the nestles morsels?? I have only ever used the candy melts from the craft store to make the white bark. Maybe since the white morsels are a little softer than the white candy melts it would pose the problem you are having?? I haven't had trouble with the candy sticking to the white. That is a good idea though to mix it throughout!!

Yes I used the morsels. The white ones cooled quicker than the chocolate. I did mix the powder in (from the crushed candies using a strainer) but the larger chucks I sprinkled on top didn't stick too well. It still tastes fine, just not as visually appealing as the milk chocolate.
