2. Combine ingredients in first group.
3. roll meat mixture in each leaf and place in 9x13 baking pan
4. Combine items in group 2 and pour over cabbage rolls.
5. Bake at 350 degrees for about 3 hours.

that sounds really good and easy, i'm curious of one thing tho. am I right in thinking that the cooking time is so long because you don't brown the meats and onion first? I want try this, I love cabbage, thanks

I have one that you might like. It's my grandmother's recipe. spare ribs and cabbage! I like to use baby backs(not only tastes good but makes it easier to stir in the pot) give the ribs and cabbage a slight boil to tender them up a bit and to get rid of some of the fat on the ribs. In a large pot saute a medium chopped onion in a little olive oil, add 1-2 large cans of crushed tomatoes, let cook low while the ribs and cabbage are boiling.(i add atouch of sugar, sometimes tomatoes are a bit bitter) when ribs and cabbage are done just add them to the tomatoes, cover and let cook on low until the ribs are as tender as you like them, usually they fall off the bone. a few pots to dirty but all in all a very easy recipe and very good. I didn't give amounts because you can make as little or as much as you want, just have enough tomato that your ribs can cook in. I've made this for 2 and I've made it for 15. I hope you try it, it's really good. If you want to, the sauce is so good over white rice or mashed potaoes.

It is easy... and yes the long cooking time is to ensure the meat is cooked thoroughly, but the cabbage also only starts out wilted... believe it or not, it takes a while to make sure the cabbage is soft. When rolling the meat mixture in the cabbage you don't want it too soft or you'll rip it... It definitely is one of those recipes for a cooler afternoon when you want the oven on.

After posting the recipe, I called our friends and asked them what they were doing for dinner today. I'm making cabbage rolls... Yum... and thanks!

OR---you can be lazy like me and make a cabbage cassarole with all the same ingredients as cabbage rolls but just layered like a lasagna. So -first tomato sauce, then shredded cabbage, then ground beef, onions, carrots, green peppers, tomatoes, repeat until the pan is full or I run out of ingredients. Cover and bake. I do not bother to pre-cook anything--just toss and run. I do mix the tomato sauce with sugar and a little white vinegar to make it a little sweet and sour. I also toss in a bunch of spices while I go--garlic, paprika, onion powder--sometimes basil. It is always good.

I take raw hamburger and mix in uncooked minute rice, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and chopped or minced onion form this into balls or log shapes and put in a baking dish. Then I chop up raw cabbage and put pieces of it all over and around the meat balls in the pan. Then I pour a 16 oz can of stewed tomatoes over this. Then I pour V8 juice over everything until everything is well covered with V8 juice. Bake until cabbage is tender and meat balls are done inside. If all the V8 juice gets sucked up during cooking I add some more V8 as it cooks.

Oh yea I also put a thin layer of V8 in the bottom of the pan first thing before I put in anything else ...otherwise the meat would stick.

My family is not big on green pepper or other chunks of veggies so this gets some veggies into them in liquid form and the V8 gives it a good flavor.

Sorry I don't measure or time anything I just throw it all together. You can parboil the chopped cabbage before putting it in and it will be more tender when done. My family eats around the cabbage anyway but I like it.

I think mine bakes for about 2 hours at 325 in a covered pan. I once made it in the microwave but don't remember how long it took...the cabbage was a little tough the time I used the microwave.
