bethanyam,, I feel your pain!!!! not only did i cook the cabbage rolls this morning but i also made a spanish soup that i cook with beef, chicken, pig feet, juca, all kinds of seasonings, corn on the cob, with a big pot of white rice on the side, oh my goodness, this is the only reason i like the cold because i can do all my cooking and then seperate it in ziplocs and into the freezer for a lazy day when i don't feel like cooking(which is really not often at all), the neighbors love when i get into my cooking fits, with DH overseas, they're the ones that benefit!!! try to have a warm winter!!!!

LOL I know. I've got a pot of beans on the stove and cornbread in the oven. I'm going to make the cabbage rolls tomorrow. I love cooking to and after my oven being broken for several months and just getting it fixed, I'm baking up a storm. I have to feed six everyday so most of it gets eaten, but I will be taking my mom and grandparents some too as there is plenty to go around .

wow, bethanyam i know the feeling!!!! my oven broke down this past March on the day we were to have my 2 & 3 yr. olds bday bbq that we do each year when DH comes from overseas(he doesn't miss a bday!) my 2 oldest kids were here from N.Y. and a bunch of friends coming. i had the mac and cheese and baked beans in the oven and the oven just kept getting hotter and hotter which had happened the summer before but the guy came and fixed the control panel but said if it happens again, it had to be thrown away because he could have caused a fire, for someone who loves to cook you know how crazy i got thinking about all these people we were feeding that day but my DH didn't give it a second thought, i was hysterical and upset and he said, "what are getting so upset about? I'll just go to Sears and buy another one" he's always so calm about things. he's great, all this happened 2 days after he bought me a new upright freezer to put in the garage. i was happy to have all the kids home at the same time

I found out a pretty awesome cabbage trick:

Instead of boiling the cabbage on the stove, put it in the microwave!
Get a microwave-safe bowl lager enough to fit the cabbage in and a couple inches of water.
Put the cabbage and water into the bowl.
Place a microwave-safe plate(eating side down) atop the cabbage.
Set timer for seven minutes.
After the seven minutes, turn cabbage, and set for another seven minutes.

That's it!

Hope your cabbage rolls come out yummy!

These were delicious. Oh we loved them. I took some to my mom and grandparents...My grandmother had a stroke a few years ago and doesn't talk very much anymore, so we never really know what she wants or likes or anything...but these she GOBBLED them up!!!!! She loved them. This made me soooo happy, to finally find something that she really enjoyed eating, instead of having to beg/plead/trick her into eating a little more (she only weighs about 80 pounds). So THANK YOU all for your hints and tips to making this..I didn't have all that was called for in the original recipe so I changed it up a little. I put onion soup mix, garlic powder, onions, rice in with the meat, and I'm not much for plain tomato sauce, and couldn't find any...could have sworn I had some somewhere , so I dumped a jar of ragu and rotel on the top of it. We thought it was really good and I will make it again.

About the oven...I love baking, and love throwing things in the oven and letting them go so I don't have to work so hard at fixing them. We replace the control panel about 3 years ago, and now the element so hopefully it will be good to go for a few more years. I love the stove...it's the first new stove that I've ever had, but I got EXACTLY what I wanted when we made the purchase so I really hope that it lasts a while longer.

Bethany, I'm happy you enjoyed them, and it was very nice to hear that Grandma loved them. Put a smile on my face... Thanks, I needed that!
