Question iced tea anyone?

Ok, this is probably a dumb ? But does anyone know how to make iced Tea. the one that is brewed with tea bags. (sale at publix) for the life of me it never comes out the way i want it. Ive read the directions on the box but no sale I always end up buying the premixed stuff. tastes good but not like u get at a restaurant. Anyone know how to make? MY DH told me I should ask all you wonderful ladies (and men)

I take my teabags if regular sized I use 6 of them and place in a small pot. I put about a quart of cold water in it. I turn it on high and heat it till it comes just to a rolling boil. You have to watch it because it will happen fast when it starts to boil and will boil over. take it off the burner and pour into a gallon jug. Add 1 1/2 sugar....you can adjust this to make it sweeter or less sweet. Stir till sugar is dissolved and then add cold water to fill it the rest of the way.
This is MUCH better the next day..I don't like warm tea. I make mine ahead...for example when we start drinking one gallon, I make another so it will be good and cold when we finish the 1st one.
Oh and if you have family size tea bags you only use 2. Hope it helps.

I never leave mine sitting after it boils, because it seems to bitter, if you like it stronger you can use 8 tea bags and get more tea "flavor" without the bitterness that comes when it sits for a while.

I find that if you add the sugar first, mix with warm water then pour the hot tea in it taste better...sometimes if the hot tea is poured right on the sugar it will scourch it...then fill the rest of the container with cool water....I have made lots and lots of tea...My DH drinks a gallon a day...Good luck

I make 1/2 gallon everyday.......

I place 5 tea bags in a pitcher. Boil 4 cups water until just a boil and pour it into the pitcher. Let steep no more than 10 minutes (after that it releases some xxx (I can't remember the name but its not good for you and helps cause UTI's)). Take out tea bags and I use 1/2 - 2/3 cup sugar, my sister uses 1 cup. Put the sugar in while the tea is HOT....otherwise it does not mix properly. Fill the container with cold water and stir.

**I also put a tablespoon of frozen limeade in my tea when I put my sugar in to give it a little tangy flavor

never would have thought of this! sounds great. My mom used to put orange and lemon slices in hers. I like the orange slices.

About this limeade, are you referring to the little green squeeze lime? The reason I ask, I am addicted to Lipton Pureleaf, unsweetened-no lemon, in the glass bottle that cost nearly (cough cough) 8 bucks a six pack. (Thanks to another forum member who sends me Q's, I'm getting it a lot cheaper now) HOWEVER, I need to "get off the bottle" My Sister, who drinks her own brewed tea and calls mine 1) sissy la-la tea 2) Little sister tea - and says I am addicted to the citric acid that is added for tartness. My Husband has looked around for Citric Acid but can not find it, is that all it is; lime??

So, have you tried this pureleaf by Lipton and if so, would you say your brewed tea taste about the same? Just curious.....and if so, this will save me a boat load of money by brewing my own.

Thanks Macey

Nope I can't stand the taste of the bottled teas This limeade is in the frozen juice section....I get the MM brand (I don't care for the generic). Depending on my mood I'll put 1 tbsp in or a big dallop! Most people who drink my tea like it....its just a little different. Why don't you give it a try...what would you lose but maybe a can of frozen juice?

Citric Acid....I think you can get that in the canning section....but I don't know about using it in a drink....
