Default Needing good pot roast recipes

Here is what I'm lookng for, Pot roast with gravy. Maybe?

My mom always made roast in the crock pot. There is nothing wrong with that if that is waht you like. I HATE IT and DH loves it.

She put in water, carrots, onions, potatoes, and roast, salt and pepper. NASTY. I will never eat this again.

So I'm trying to find a great pot roast recipes that's not my mothers and one that isn't boiled meat. Something that both me and DH will like.

well I use basically the same recipe except: depending on the size of your roast

put roast in roasting pan. then I give it a shake of sal t and pepper (I use McCormick grinders and I just twist it 2 or 3 times)....slit top and put in a little whole garlic in the slits then sprinkle with 1/2 pkg Lipton onion soup...put veggies on top and around and sprinkle the remaining pkg plus a little more....(to coat) I often use 2 pkgs Lipton onion soup then pour about 1/2 of water and that much or more burgundy...cover tightly and cook at 325 until tender (2 hours or so once again depending on the size) Everybody seems to like the flavor of this roast and the veggies.

I don't make gravy so I don't know but I imagine the wine makes a nice gravy....

I am crockpot-ed out too lately. I know what you mean about pot roasts in them. They're good but everything tastes like a carrot...if you include these.

Here's my fave. I brown a roast, sprinkled with seasoning salt, in a little oil. YOu can finely slice up some onion too and brown it alongside the roast. If you don't have an onion, use dry onion soup mix with the gravy ingredients. After it's good and browned, remove roast to roaster pan. In med-hot skillet that you browned roast in, dump in 1 can cream of mushroom soup, 1 envelope brown gravy mix, onion soup mix if you didn't use an onion and sometimes I add a can of mushrooms or 1 small can Dawn Fresh Steak Sauce (tiny can sold near mushrooms in my store...grandma used it all the time). Add about 1 soup can water. Stir until bubbly and make sure you scrape all the goodies out of the skillet. POur this over roast in pan. Seal tightly with foil. Bake at 325 degrees for 2.5 - 3 hours. I like to pour drippings into saucepan and thicken, if necessary, with more water and cornstarch. This falls apart when done!
YUmmers!!

LOL if you don't like pot roast out of the crockpot...chances are you won't like it out of the oven either. For example, I can't stand pork tenderloin...doenst matter how its cooked or what you put on it..i think its nasty.

Here is the recipe from Argo for gravy...this is what I use, always turns out good..no complaints.

Easy Gravy

Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 10 minutes
Yield: 2 cups

2 tablespoons fat drippings (from any type of roasted meat)
2 cups broth OR bouillon*
2 tablespoons Argo® or Kingsford’s® Corn Starch
1/4 cup cold water
Cook fat drippings and broth OR boullion in a roasting pan or saucepan over medium heat until hot.

Stir corn starch and water in a small bowl until smooth; add to pan. If desired, add a dash of poultry seasoning for chicken and turkey gravies, a sprinkle of thyme for beef or a pinch of rosemary for pork. Stirring constantly with a wire whisk, bring to a boil while over medium heat and boil 1 minute. Season with salt and pepper.

*This can be a gluten free-recipe if gluten-free broth or bouillon is used.

MICROWAVE DIRECTIONS: Combine all ingredients in a 2-quart, microwave-safe bowl. With a whisk, stir until corn starch is completely dissolved. Microwave on HIGH (100%) power for 7 to 9 minutes or until mixture boils, stirring every minute. Boil for 1 minute. Season with salt and pepper.

I guess i just don't like the crock pot because it makes it "soggy" Maybe the oven would be better

Sorry, I like a pot roast in the oven but the Crock Pot version is gaggy. You're right...soggy. The recipe I gave you is a keeper! And everything does not taste like it was 'boiled together'.
