Oh my, I have to try these methods for cooking corn and pasta. I have never heard of this. And since it is Martha-approved....

About keeping cool, we carry our toaster/convection oven out onto the screen porch and make dinner there almost every night. The oven is large enough that we can bake two racks of stuff at a time if needed (though we never do). But the design is such that it is not huge on the outside and does not take up that much room on the kitchen counter. And it is big enough for pizza, too. It was a good use of a BB&B 20% off coupon.

You can also cook corn on the cob in the microwave. Just wrap unhusk corn with a moisten paper towel, microwave 2mins.

As far as the pasta 20 min is too long. After the water comes to a boil shut off add pasta and cover. Let sit no more the 10 minutes unless you like overcooked pasta.
