I don't even boil the corn. I have my big pot and get the water to a good boil, then I stick the corn in and turn the jets off, cover, and let set for 10 minutes. The corn comes out sweet, crispy, juicy, and never tough. My DH used to mock me for the way I cooked corn, until I had Martha Stewart to back me up. It's the way she cooks it too.

I don't even boil corn anymore. I got a super nifty microwave "rice steamer" from walmart a few years back and I wouldn't be with out it. I steam all kinds of veggies and rice in it and it takes just a few minutes and never heats up the kitchen just about a 1/4 cup or less of water and tada... yummy-ness. you can steam fish, shrimp, shell fish and even chicken breasts too if you desire.

Corn in the steamer is amazing. You do have to break the ears in half to get them in the steamer but oh it is so worth it.

I have this rice steamer and I love it, but all I use it for is rice. Now, I feel stupid. Thanks for the ideas.

LOL you mean you took the lable on the box literally? ha ha ha... The only thing I would suggest it to get a second one to use for fish especially if you like strong fish. Because it's plastic I've noticed fish "flavors" can transfer. So I have one for fish alone... and I took a perm marker and labeled it "FISH Steamer" so I know. LOL

But chicken, a little fresh lemon, thyme, black pepper, rice, bell pepper, onion... all steamed together... omg wonderful Just be sure to pound boneless chicken breasts uniformly flat and cut into strips so it cooks easily. Oooh! And don't forget to try steaming with liquids other than water. Try wine, broth, flavored vinegars (diluted) rootbeer... heh try small amounts first... if you like it go for it... if not... no harm done.

Coupon Queen, This is the way I make mine.Sorry I cant give you the exact measurements. My mom makes them this way too.Canned pork and beans, ketchup, splash of mustard, brown sugar, mix together and lay slices of bacon on top. Bake until gooey and bubbly. For the beans I guess its how many you are feeding and adjust the other ingredients accordingly. HTH

I make lentil salads and rice salads. You can cook the grains earlier and cool. Add stuff like Feta cheese, chopped spinach, red onion, balsamic vinegar and olive oil.
