Question Homemade Laundry Detergent??

Does anyone who has more experience with the homemade type of laundry soap than I do please help?

Started using 4 months ago -using Dugger recipe - I have a front loader- and things are not coming clean? have tried adding vinegar, I have hard water. I can work in vegetable garden and plain old dirt is not coming out.

Was so excited when I started- thoughts of all the money I could save?

I double my recipe (makes almost a full 5 gal. bucket). I use a whole bar of Fels Naptha, 1 cup washing soda and 1 cup of borax all water is doubled as well. I have been using homemade soap since October with no problems. It actually started as a Science project my daughter was doing for school. Turned out in the experiment that homemade soap and Gain det. got various stains out almost exactly the same. Anyways, I have read online that some people are putting oxy clean into their mixture (there is a knock off at the dollar tree). You can do a search online and find lots of sites with different recipes or people talking about it.

Good luck...

I use this
1 full bar fells naptha or Zote soap
1 1/2 cups washing soda
1 1/2 cups borax

This makes up a five gallon bucket full

I found that the fells naptha did not get all of the dirt out and I found Zote which cost 62 cents a bar verses 99 cents. It does a lot better at getting stains out and is cheaper. Zote is with the laundry soaps and you can always ask the store if they don't carry it to see if they can get it for you.

Nefarmgirl, where did you find Zote. I have looked EVERYWHERE. I found, a while back, where you can order it online but I feel that defetes the purpose of it being a money saver if you have to pay shipping.
Do you put essential oil in yours ?

I remember seeing the Duggar's mix up their recipe on tv.
I pass. As cheap as I can buy it, not worth all the trouble or time(which I have very little to spare as it is LOL).
