Hi ... and thank you so much for listing this booklet; many 'old-time' favorites, too, and the article was interesting to read ... thanks!

Default Thanks so much!

This is great! I would have never found it otherwise. What comfort food really is. . . . mmmmmm!!! i've been looking for a "new" stew meat recipe, since i got a few family packs on sale! i love the idea of adding chick peas!

I found this one delightful because it has some truly interesting "Soul Food" recipes in this. I doubt I'll ever use the chitterling or pigs feet recipes, but if the need ever arises... I know what to do now.

My Brother was born and pretty much raised in the south... our parents were from Louisiana. My Sister and I were born in Oregon, so we missed out on a lot of the "soul food" that is so prevelant down there. Anyway.. my brother is a bit of a smarly pants and when a waitress comes to take his order he almost always says. "blackeyed peas, fried fatback, grits, collard greens and chittlins" The truth is he doesn't really like all that stuff except maybe blackeyed peas... now I'm ready... when he comes and asks for that... I'll whip out the book and serve it up! LOL

It's nice history too. You can tell these women prepared their meager fair with love.... the most important ingredient!
