Default Quick and cheap homemade donuts and cinnamon rolls

Use any brand (cheapest you can find) canned biscuits.
Cut out holes with donuts cutter.
In medium saucepan, put about 2-3 inches vegetable oil.
When grease is hot, drop dough in for just a minute til it starts to swell. Flip them over. You want them to be just barely browned. After both sides are golden brown, take out and drain on paper bag or paper towels.
While still hot, drop into bowl of icing or cinnamon/sugar mix and coat.

Icing:
about 2 cups powdered sugar, 1 tsp vanilla. Add small drops of milk gradually while mixing to a fairly thin glaze.

It's much easier with some help out of the kids or hubby to cut and to coat. And it's fun to have a little assembly line going.

ENJOY!!

CINNAMON ROLLS
Another good recipe for the biscuits is to roll them on a pile of cinnamon/sugar mix until thin. Put 3-4 little smudges of margarine or butter (just here and there) then sprinkle with brown sugar. Roll up so they are long like a hot dog. Bake according to biscuit directions. YUMMY!!

PS the oil stays clean so you can store it and reuse it over and over.

That very good to know because oil is so expensive. Well to me I think it is!

Yes it is rediculous. I've always saved containers of grease. I also save my french fry grease. I save bacon grease too. My mom was very old school...AND CHEAP. She taught me lots of tricks. My mother grew up poor as her mom was single with four kids and no child support. Back then there were no state aid. So even after we had plenty of money she was so frugal...she taught me lots of things that I rolled my eyes about and then used the hell out of it ten years later. LOL

Default oh the memories....

omg, my mom used to make those biscuit donuts when we were kids, I haven't thought about or had those in forever!! (well over 30 yrs I think :X )
I think I will make some for the kids this weekend, they will love them.
Oh, I save my bacon grease, use it to cook everything in...mmmmm
Learned that from my grandma, she DID cook everything in bacon grease, eggs, potatoes, cabbage..bacon!..lol You name it, it could be fried up, and oh my,her cooking was so good. And she lived to 93, never had high cholesterol or any thing.
Anyway, a bit long winded there... just a big THANK YOU for bringing back memories
Enjoy your donuts!!

I miss my Grandma's cinnamon rolls, I'll give these a try - of course they won't be like Gram's, but they sound really good!!! Thanks for sharing!!

Default biscuit donuts

Another thing to do to "stretch" the biscuits is to cut them in quarters and fry in the grease, they make great "donut holes" this way. I started doing it this way instead of making the holes in the middle of the biscuits when my girls were little so they could pick them up easier--and it just stuck! My girls like rolling them in powdered sugar after frying. Cinnamon sugar is great too...so is chocolate frosting!

Default Little Pigs in a Blanket

I take the refrigerator biscuits and quarter them. Then I wrap each quarter around a little cocktail weiner (not the little sausage, but the little hot dogs). Put them on a cookie sheet and bake them 10 minutes or until the biscuit is brown. My kids love them and they make a TON!
