Tell me more
![]() I love to bake, but I usually use a cake mix and then change it up a bit. Does it have to be from scratch? How do you find out more about this contest? Maybe I can google it, I just never thought of entering anything like this. Maybe I'll get lucky and win LOL!!!

I've never wanted to do this, I'd be too nervous baking in front of everyone - my stuff prolly wouldn't turn out right
![]() I do have a question, though, do any of you substitute applesauce for veg. oil when baking a cake? does it really make it moister? and how much applesauce do you use in place of the oil? I just made a cake last night and was thinking about it........ any help or suggestions would be great.

bake off info
Here is the link for you. The bake off is held once a year. After they check out all the recipes submited they decide who is going to actually make it to the final rounds. They fly you to florida (i think) and you bake your items there for the judges. It is all filmed for food network. After they judge them they hold a dinner that evening and annouce the winners. They have winners for each of the four cat. then one big winner from the four. If you don't win any of the big prizes you could win some smaller one's like the jiff award (5 grand and some kitchen gear) for useing at least 1/4 cup jiff in your recipe or the crisco award (same as jiff). You have to use at least two of the items they have listed on the web site and it has to be a recipe you came up with yourself. I have one in mind. I think i'm gonna use some jiff just in case i don't win the big prize. I figure that's a good back up plan ![]() As for the applesauce in cake. I've done this before and it does taste pretty good, most people can't tell you have done something different. I believe i used the same amout of applesauce as it called for in oil. IE: 1/2 oil = 1/2 applesauce. Have you ever tried the mayo cakes. WOW, now those are very moist. |
