Default Tortilas know how??

I made chicken tacos tonight and decided I would try tortilas..I consider myself a good cook and followed the directions on the side of the masa package. That may have been my first mistake. I tryed patting them in my hand. I then tryed putting them between wax paper and they kept sticking. Finally I got some decent ones rollled out and onto a cast iron pan..They started to smoke and well just did not turn out..

So I was wondering if somone can give me their recepie and some pointers??

I use whole wheat mission tortillas, all you have to do is warm them in the skillet a little bit. I take long slices of green pepper, onion, shred boiled chicken breast, add BBQ sauce, scoop onto tortilla and fold. It's really good and low calorie

Default Tortillas

I hope this helps:
First off, you want the maseca to be the consistency of wet play dough. From personal experience you need to start with less water and add it as you see fit. I like to add lime juice and salt for no other reason than taste.
I use a plastic bag to roll them out, they stick to wax paper and parchment paper. A simple plastic bag for the store unused and cut handle and sides, so you end up with two squares. Form a ball with the dough and place in the middle of the square place other square on top and roll out, (you could use a rolling pin or a glass) to the desire thickness.

Before i got a comal I was using a griddle or a non-stick frying pan. with the frying pan you have to remove it every now and then so it doesn't get to hot and start to smoke.

If none of this helps go to your nearest Mexican food store and Buy some, There are some stores that make them fresh.

I use a tortilla press I never did by hand so don't know how much of help I can be but it seems like your problem was sticking and smoking and for that I can only suggest to sprinkle corn meal on the wax papar then put dough down and sprinkle top with more corn meal and then roll. If it was smoking when you put into pan then it was too dry make sure pan you will be using for this is well seasoned (has been oiled but no standing oil) I only use cast iron for tortilas and keep my pans well seasoned.

My grandmother is from mexico and used to make us home made ones all the time but she is mad at the flour and corn companies and will not make them anymore she said they changed something and the things won't turn out right now. now she goes to the mexican store and buys them. It was a sad day in the family when grandma said no more tortillas

I miss them so much. she is such a great cook so i've never tried to make them myself. I figure if grandma can't get them right i shoulnd't even try. LOL
