    Default Keeping receipts and UPC?

I normally throw away my receipts on a monthly basis. Now I'm thinking I should keep it and the UPC from the box in case a rebate is offered.

Where can I find all the current rebates and does the rebate normally includes purchases prior to the rebate offer?

I keep all my receipts for at least 6 months. A lot of rebates don't require UPCs, and trying to save and organize them would be a nightmare, so I don't bother with those. I've found quite a few times when I learned about a rebate that started well before I learned about it. Having those old receipts let me go back and find ones that fulfilled the requirements without going out to buy anything new. The rebates generally have well-defined periods during which the products had to be purchased, but you may learn about them after they started. So those old receipts can come in handy for them.

I agree with Niffer - on the few occasions that a UPC was necessary and I no longer had the box/bottle/etc. I went to the store and just looked at the product on the shelf and copied down the UPC.

I have envelopes made for UPC codes according to brand. I just clip the UPC and put it in the envelope and then store the envelopes in a small box. I also throw all ofmy reciepts into another box in case I need it for a return (gift item, rebate, etc.) I have been doing this for months and it has come in quite handy if I find rebates later on.

There is a new $10.00 Kelloggs pre-paid Master Card. No reciepts needed....just 10 UPC codes to send in from selected Kelloggs cereals.

    Promotion ends December 31, 2011.

So can I assume that the UPC code for a certain product is always the same? I thought each box had a different UPC code?

Each size, flavor, color, etc. will have it's own unique UPC number (this helps stores do inventory, change prices, order more stock, etc.). Even items with different covers can have different UPC numbers (like the new "retro" cereal boxes and soda flavors vs. the regular flavors).
