    Default Trouble in Paradise

I've always loved shopping at Ralph's because they NEVER give me any trouble over coupons. However, apparently they've been briefed by corporate over IP coupons. It seems there are those out there who make photo copies of IP coupons and attempt to use them!

So today I went to Ralph's to get, among other things, the 4 Healthy Choice frozen dinners. These would be FREE after using four of the $2.00/1 IP coupons. I had printed out 2 IP coupons at home using color, and my friend printed out 2 IP coupons using greyscale. My friend lives across the street from me and we share deals often.

When I got to the register the cashier refused to take the greyscale coupons because she thought they were copies. I told her nicely they were not copies, but printed using greyscale. On these Healthy Choice coupons there is a lighter, imprint on the right side to show it is a good coupon. If I were to make a copy this imprint would not show up. I showed her that and she went to ask the manager. I heard the manager yell "NOPE!" and she says she can't take them because they are copies. So I tell her again they are not copies and to kindly take those items off my total because I don't want them now.

I then spoke to another manager on my way out, showed him the coupons, and he went to find their new policy. I showed him the lighter imprint on the side and he apologized many times and said I could use them. So in the end everything turned out okay - but I think I will only print in color from now on.

So far I haven't had issue- I also did the 4 Healthy Choice ones and it was fine. What I try to do at Ralphs is to take several smaller trips instead of a huge trip if I am getting lets say 10 Free Dial Soaps instead of doing all 10 with the coupons at once I'll do 5 trips with 2 Q's each and spread out my stuff. I find they usally get suspicious of people who are using a ton of coupons the most easily with multiples.

It sounds like you did the right thing and you obviously know the policy :-)

Only one of the same Q will double/triple per transaction, so for the free dials, you may want to do them one at a time.

I also tend to use the coupons in multiple transactions as well.

Whenever the checkout person has a question, the manager has always said to take them unless the register beeps and doesn't take them (then it would be when they would have to manually override them). Never had a problem otherwise.

I tried to do 2 separate transactions today, (so that my coupons would double), but the cashier told me she wouldn't double the coupons in the 2nd order! She was the shift supervisor, too. Never had a problem before. She said I needed another person to pay for that order (even a child would be okay!) The line was long and I didn't feel like arguing so I left the second order.

I usually don't have a problem either? In fact, I went this morning and did 2 transactions without the cashier giving it a second thought. Maybe I will have to AVOID the cashier who wouldn't allow it!
