if you sign up on their website e-mail list, they often have free shipping on orders of over $100. it might not help now for your daughters birthday, but now that i know i have this coming, i buy stuff when i do have free shipping. if i don't need $100 worth, i just stock up for the next birthday/holiday. any bit helps!

Another place to look is shopgoodwill.com you would not believe the number of American Girl dolls they receive in great condition. I have received 3 dolls from there all in new condition. I hope this helps.

Default AG Doll help

Today I just found that WalMart has Madame Alexander Dolls that are 18 inches. They sell outfits that are reasonable and they fit my daughters AG dolls. Though the dolls cost a lot more than the other similar dolls, they really are very good quality and are a lot of fun. The other thing that I've found to save a little for accessories are the Our Generation at Target...their furniture is very reasonable and similar to the furniture made by AG. There are just some of the original outfits that are adorable and I don't mind buying them for special occasions, but supplementing the wardrobe with a few of the less expensive clothes makes the most sense.

My daughter just now got her 1st American Girl Doll. Will it be her last? I don't know. She turned 10 years old about 3 months ago. We've been getting the catalog in the mail for years and she circles everything that she wants (which is almost everything in the book). I've been putting her off for years but finally decided it was time, especially seeing all the money we spend on our son's baseball bats and other sports equipment.

We went to the American Girl Doll Place in Chicago ... and that place is AMAZING !!!!!!! It's like a museum. They have anything and everything that you'd ever want.

My daughter's first comment was "I can't believe we're really here" and then "I'm so happy we're here that I could puke"

We left with a doll - yes $95. It was hard to decide which one - but she knew we were only getting one, so there was no begging for more. We did not do lunch at the cafe (although I hear it is magnificient) - maybe next time.

We also got 3 outfits (not including the one that came with the doll), a puppy, a puppy carrier, the flute set (which came with a flute, a flute case, a music stand, and sheet music, really nice!), and we got the doll's hair braided ($10) and we got the doll's ears pierced ($15 comes with 6 pair of earrings).

We brought $300 cash and we spent $300 cash. We kept a running list of what she wanted and then had to decide what to get with the money available. It was a good lesson in making choices. She chose more outfits for the doll (and the braids and pierced ears were important to her), so she's asking for some of the matching clothes for Christmas and birthday.

We had a GREAT day and it was a lot of fun, for both of us !!!! We could have gotten away with spending less (and it would have been easy to spend more). But she knows we may never be back there and she's thrilled with EVERYTHING she got !!!!!

*As far as discounts or coupons, I don't know that there are any. I have seen coupons such as "if you spend $50 in the store, then you get a cardigan for your doll for free." When we were there, if you spent over $50, then you got a pair of red glitter shoes and silver tights for only $10 for your doll.

*She has 2 Next Generation dolls and they are okay ... but she's older now and thought she would take better care of the AG doll at this age.

*Just bought a Next Generation "Trundle Bed" at Target for only $50 - much cheaper than the ones at American Girl doll - and it's very nice !!!! It'll be a nice Christmas gift

We have bought two American Girls for our daughter. Some of you may not know but there is an AG store in the Atlanta area. I'm sure it is not as big as some of the others, but it's within driving distance for us here in Tennessee. We have made it a day trip twice. Our daughter and our five year old son love to go there. It's in a nice mall. We shop, have a nice meal and can be back home at a descent hour.

It is all AG stuff that is at least 75% off. The items are mostly new and some slightly damaged. The AG stores do not restock returns or any damages but send them to WI. The volunteers put everything in working order and have a huge 2 day sale. Go to Madison Childrens Museum site for dates and tickets. It is an incredible adventure and well worth the time. Bittys were $20, Historical AG $35-$45 and clothes, furniture and trunks were about $1-$20. Book are .50-$1 and girls clothes were all $10. Even the beautiful winter coats. If you want more ideas on how to negotiate the sale, let me know. We went there for 5 summers in a row and I would buy for others and gifts for all year long.
Wow! This is great! Thanks for the heads up!

My DD really wants the AMG horse and accessories. Unfortunately, I had to tell her they were too expensive and we couldn't get them. I just wasn't willing to spend the money on them, even though they are adorable (and probably worth the price)! I think I just found a way to get them for her though. My DH has lots of friends in Madison from his college days and grandma and grandpa live 3 hours north! Guess we'll be planning a vacation around the sale dates. DD will be SO excited!

People always look for sale and discount on various things. Also now a days economy of the world is not going good so people are facing recession problem. Therefore sale and discount are really important for everybody. So for that i have helpful suggestion about shopping for everyone. 2009 Black Friday Ads provide really big discount and sale on various things.
