Hello there! i'm in the need of a new laptop for school and have no idea where to start looking. I have had a dell laptop for the past 3 years and would like a new one, but not a dell. I was thinking maybe a hp, but i don't know anyone who has one and if they are good computers. any advice?-- Courtney

i have an hp, & i love it.
the warranty was fantastic, & the customer service was always fast, even if it was overseas-based.we also have a dell & a toshiba. my favorite is still the hp, though. mine is lightweight but has enough power to handle my multi-tasking needs. in my opinion, dells don't last very long, & tend to die with intensive use. if you are hard on your electronics, you probably should get something else. toshiba is not my favorite, but better than dell. ours has put up with pretty intensive use, & we haven't had to get anything fixed on it. |

go with hp or compaq. the customer service imo was a little slow, and they kept my notebook for over 3 weeks (supposed to be just 3-5 days), I just called and complained and complained and complained more and more every day for 2 weeks. finally i got to a case mgr and they completely upgraded my notebook and sent me a new one. they won me over with that. whatever it takes to completely satisfy a customer....

I'm looking at $100/month for the next 9 months, but it was well worth it. We went wireless and now I'm not stuck in the basement all night doing work. Dawn

Don't do any banking and/or sensitive materials type things on wireless... I've heard of private information being ripped off. My SIL frequently uses the neighbor's wireless capability at the cottage and I'm sure hackers do the same thing. Just an FYI...

I've had my Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop for three years now with no issues at all and it gets used every day 5-8 hours....hmmm....
