I asked about the "roll backs" at WM the other day. I was told they are not permanent. They are specials, like a sale. Unfortunately, we're not getting a regular weekly ad in the paper, so it's difficult to tell when the roll back prices will be gone.

"Rollback" definitely implies a cutting back on a price that is not just a temporary sale. If they are just sale prices, the way they advertise is deceiving. They clearly chose that terminology to make them sound like ongoing price reductions to their regular price.

I believe if everyone stops shopping at Wallymart they will have to lower their prices. Unbelievable how these stores are taking advantage of the struggling economy!
Have to say I am pretty happy with Kroger right now...haven't seen some of their prices this low in a long time!

WM makes me sick! I used to only go there to shop but since finding CM I prob only frequent there once a month or so to check things out. Their "rollbacks" not only are maddening, but just as maddening are their ads and commercials they paste everwhere talking about how much they "save" Americans each year and how great their prices are! HA! I just feel badly for all of those ppl who don't know any better...
Yes, this clip-your-heart-out, sweatin'-out-the-deals stuff is my "me time"! Luv2Save

Our local news station did a bit regarding the grocery stores in our area and their prices. They comp shopped several stores for the same items - not on sale and no q's. They wanted to find out who had the cheapest everyday prices. Walmart was the cheapest, then Target, then Meijer, then Spartan Stores (Family Fare, D&W). If I can find their list on the news website, I'll post the info

OK here's the link to our news station with the info: http://www.woodtv.com/dpp/your_money...rocery_savings

Wal-Mart, just like any store, PRAYS for uneducated consumers. Fortunately, all of us here do not fall into that category. I can spot a great deal a MILE away, but I can spot a ruse though from even further....

I have gotten together with a friend. We are entering all our WM prices into a file so we can compare them to the circulars of surrounding grocery stores. WM is almost always less. But sometimes with a double-q and sale price, ShopRite is better. And sometimes the smaller local places are better with fresh meats and produce. But WM, for whatever it is, has the lowest overall prices around here.
