Default Meijer Shopping and SURPRISE! Coupon Problem

I got everything that I wanted from my Meijer list with the exception of the Coles Cinnamon Sticks. They were no where to be found. I substituted with (2) Hunts Pudding 4-packs.

Still saved $52 and only spent $31 so happy with my overall savings.

Here is the problem that I had. After the cashier and manager explained the Meijer policy to me I suppose I see their point of view but I still disagree.

As I was finishing up my shopping I ran through the meat department to see if there were any specials I missed or possibly some marked down meat I could freeze. On almost every package of ground beef was a peelie for $1 off any ground beef with purchase of Philly Cooking Creme. I thought PERFECT! I'm already buying 2 so I'll get some discounted ground beef and stick it in the freezer.

I went to checkout and had NO problems until I sent to scan my last coupon which was 2/$1.50 Philly Cooking Creme. The computer said that it was not a valid coupon. I called the cashier over (who by the way was the RUDE cashier I spoke to the manager about earlier this year) and sugar would not have melted in her mouth. We went through all of my coupons and she told me (later confirmed by the manager) that the $1 peelie was applied towards BOTH the ground beef and the Philly Cooking Creme. My opinion is that I had 2 packs of beef and 2 PCC and 3 coupons. The 2 peelies were for the beef and my 2/$1.50 was for the PCC. I would not have considered buying the beef without the peelie. So I told the manager that I did not want the beef and to remove from my order. I then commented that because of this policy by not taking my $1.50 coupon, they were losing $9 off my order. She didn't care and said that was the rule.

What say you everyone? I guess I can see their point but I still believe that I'm right. I'm getting a $1 off of the beef due to my purchase of the PCC, nothing more. I just found it very frustrating and of course this made my time in the store an extra 15 minutes.

I saw that coupon on beef in the store and I have a .55 on philly creme. I wanted to use both but did not even try because the store always refuses to
use 2 coupons like this, even if there is nothing on either coupon that says not valid with other coupons. Ya I think you should have been able to do that
transaction, but of course the store managers like to make up the coupon policies daily on their own! Again, coupon discrimination

I have seen those peelies too. I do not really care for PCC, so I have not used it.

As for the coupons, How did they know what items the coupon applied too? Unless it listed under the particular item like a store coupon. IMO I think both coupons should have been accepted. Really really frustrating. I might have tried to take the coupon to the service desk and redeemed it there.

Oh, I have been back to Cumberland a few times since I swore them off. My prescriptions are there, and I haven't had one coupon issue since my letters to the store management. I find that it helps to use the a regular checklane. They are more ept to push coupons through in interest of not holding up their line.

My fiancee likes to cook with the PCC and we both enjoy. Just frustrating that they would not push through a $1.50 Q that was going to get them almost $9 more towards the sale. It's a no-brainer to me. I'm not trying to be deceitful by any means. I still go through the self check lanes but maybe I will start to go to the regular checkout. Not really any issues to report at Cumberland other than when I see the unfriendlies they just glare and I just smile back, LOL.

I'm pretty sure that all of the stores I visit have that same kind of rule. If you use a coupon towards X because you bought Y, the coupon "attaches" to both items and you can't use another coupon on either item.

I have to agree with the store on this one (Sorry!!). The peelie said Save on Philly Cooking Creme WYB... so that is what the coupon attaches to, the Philly not the meat. I've never been able to stack 2 of the manu coupons.

LOL, no worries because in that instance, I would agree, but the way I remember the peelie reading it said that you save $1 on Ground Beef when you purchase (1) Philly Cooking Creme not the other way around.

Does the coupon say "save on ground beef when you buy philly cooking cream?" Or does it say "save $xx when you buy PCC AND Ground beef?" Or does it say "save on PCC when you buy ground beef?"

IMO, if it's the first, it should have worked. IMO, the first means the discount is on the beef, not the PCC and shouldn't have attached to both. To me that;s like using a coupon that says "Save $1 on wipes when you buy dipes" WITH a coupon that says "save $1 on dipes" when buying both dipes and wipes. ANd that type of situation I have never had a problem with.

If it's the second, or third, then I think the store is probably right.

I actually have one of these peelies because I needed to buy the beef anyways but don't care for the PCC so didn't use the peelie. The wording is "SAVE $1.00 NOW ON GROUND BEEF when you buy any ONE (1) package of PHILADELPHIA Cooking Creme." The fine print only states "One coupon, per customer, per day." It doesn't say that it cannot be used along with another offer (like a coupon for the PCC).

The problem with coupons like this is they are always coded to attach to the brand name item. There is no way to code them to attach to a generic item like ground beef unless they are coded not to attach to anything which is rare. In almost every store, if you try to use another coupon for the Philly, it will beep. You can fight until you are blue in the face about what the coupon says but its not worth it in my opinion.
