Meijer "not allowing" extreme couponing

I just "found" the coupons for the free two pack of ElMonterry Burittos from the 5/1 SS. I thought they would be a great "cheap" meal for the room mate to nuke up when he gets home late nights from his second shift job! Had 22 coupons that I had accumulated over time & went to Meijer to get them ( usually only end up w/ a few, but for some reason have a lot of these...). At the register the cashier rang up the burittos, then the coupons. When she had about 1/2 of them done, they all voided for some reason. She called over the night manager & he took me to another reg. to ring me up. It did the same to him. He kind of scratched his head for a min., then remembered that Meijer just installed a new failsafe so that cashiers can't commit coupon fraud so easily. You are only allowed so many free items. 1/2 of however many are in your order, to be exact. The cashier can over ride some of them, but on an order my size it took a manager to do it. Then he still had to split it into 2 orders....guess I'll be making lots of small transactions if I need a lot of something that will be "free w/ coupon"and have to get it at Meijer.

Wow! I've not run into that yet, but I can't say that I've redeemed that many like q's before. After watching a couple of EC shows and the trouble that those registers have, I wondered if Meijer has limits... Thanks for the heads up!

Oh, and at my Meijer, those burrito's are $1.19... so using the q - they weren't free.

My Meijer has a limit of 5 like coupons. The rest just won't ring up at all. It has been that way for a while here.

My limit is 4 at my Meijer. This rule kinda keeps me in check. I very rarely need more than 4 of anything at a time. I try to do no more than 3 transactions..... if I do, I start to question my "need" for the item or of if I am just going bananas cause its free. If I have extra coupons, I enjoy playing coupon fairy, or just save them for the next trip. I have learned here recently, "There will be a another sale"

Thanks for the information about the coupon cancelling. That is acutally really annoying. It is very easy to get your whole order free with coupons during the 10 for 10 sale. I may have to chat with the manager before my next trip... that is insane.

My Meijer will only double 2 of the same coupon, but I never heard they had a limit on "like" coupons that weren't being doubled. I guess I'll find out tomorrow when I go in with 8 of the same coupon. If it doesn't let me use them, I will be mad. It's already irritating to only be able to get 2 of something that is a great deal with a coupon that needs to be doubled.

Everyone remember, this is also the Meijer that is closest to corporate offices. From the description of what others say, it may only be the stores her in GR. Besides, we don't get coupon doubling either. Funny thing is, the manager I spoke with last night said Meijer would "never again" double coupons because they lost too much money in the 70s. He was veer surprised to find out that they do double in other markets!

My Meijer on East Washington doubles the first two like coupons then if I have more they are only redeemed at face value, so I go through the self-checkout and do multiple transactions.

The only reason they double in other markets is because Kroger is in the area. Since we're also the home of Spartan Stores there isn't room for Kroger in Grand Rapids anymore.
