So as a good couponer, I always look at prices before I buy... This evening I had some time to burn and some q's in my car I was waiting to use. I just happen to be in a town 10 miles up the road., I go in , I go to the first isle I need and find the Powerade, what happens, they only have 4 flavors and none I like, No Big Deal, I can go again later. SO I find the next isle I need, I find the capri sun's and what do I see. They are marked up almost 100% at this store, than at my own store. SO I ever so calmly walk up to the counter and ask why? She polietly tells me that it is because they are in a different zone. Your 10 miles up the road. You have to be kidding me. Thats the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard, I calmly take my child out of the cart and tell her that I'm calling corporate to complain and that I WONT be back to this store and maybe NO other store of theirs.. How silly. I can't believe how outrageous. The capri suns are $1.90 at my store they were $3.80 at the store 10 miles up the road... I had $1 off q, that makes them .90 at mine and 2.80 at the other.. How unbelieveable..

We have 3 Wal-Marts, 4 HyVees and 3 Fareways in town. ALL are different! Luckily for me, I live by the cheap Fareway and the mid-ranged HyVee.

Unfortunately - this is a very common thing - That all reatailers do - That is why it's important to know your prices and have a price book and stick to your maximum purchase price. Retailers target prices based upon populations and income levels and you have to remember a Sale is not always a Sale.

I shop in several different stores each week and several different locals - for this exact reason.

yup i see this happen alot. We have 4 Walmarts within a 10 mile radius in each direction from our house. NONE of them have the same prices, and not only that, the differences are huge...we are not just talking a couple cents! A manager told me this past December while Christmas shopping that their pricing is geared towards the area the store is in. Lower income areas have cheaper prices. I couldnt beleive it! But he was right

We have 2 wal-marts within 2 or 3 miles of each other. It's hard to believe how close they are to each other. My son went online and priced a video game thigee for $50. He went to our closest Wal-Mart and they were asking $70 for it. I mentioned the online price, and apparently they do not pricematch their own online prices. I drove to the other wal-mart that's less than 10 minutes away, and they had the thing at $50. It made me sort of look around the store and I realized that the shirts I had been buying for $8 each at my Wal-Mart were only $5 each at this Wal-Mart. I had no idea there could be price differences between Wal-Marts, much less between stores that were so close together.

Its so frustrating.. It makes me so angry.. I tried not to let it bother me because the store in question is only 45 min from Aspen and I should have known, but come on.. When I spoke to the managers at my Wally world and target, they told me their prices are all the same, that its illegal and company policy that everything match. I am writing corporate today.. I just can't believe that driving ten miles down the road will save me even more money.. SO crazy...

I know what you mean! I was in a different part of town & tried out a Kroger I'd never visited to find that they have SUCH lower prices than I usually see. I got a little giddy and probably overbought some items like baked beans for $1.69 when the regular price is $2.29 in the other stores.

Then I started thinking about how much the stores I usually visit are costing me and I got a bit miffed! I'll make the trip the extra 3 miles (yes only 3 miles!!) from now on.

Time to update the price book for sure.

So, after much wrestling with going back to my City Market, i did decide to email corporate about my experience.. It took about 2 days, and I got an e-mailed response back from someone.. I did add complimaints about the store that I normally go to, because the staff there is actually really really great.. THey help me, they are nice, they know me and my children. They never give me any problems about my couponing..EVER!!.. In fact they love it.. The manager from my fav store called me yesterday to thank me for the letter, that normally they here the negative, and never anything positive. I didn't get any q's or anything, but he said that he shared my letter with the employees, that I had mentioned and they were thankful, also, I had earned each of them a small bonus... YEa.. Good I'm glad, I wish more stores would offer things like this, maybe we would have or get better service.. He asked me about my expeirence at the other store and wondered, if the manager had taken the time to call me yet. When I responded no and told him that my complaints had fallen on deaf ears before, (at this store) he applogized profusly to me for that store and told me he was going to personally call the manager of that store to find out why I was treated so badly and what they intended to do about it.... Good, I hope that they hold each other accountable. More companies should also do this.. Maybe, if one store brags to another about bonuses, and various things, the other store will try harder.. But anyway I'm so glad that I was called, and applogized to and thanked for my letter. Even though it wasn't the right store..
