Unhappy Secret Flawless Deal 4/5 to 4/14

I'm trying, I'm really, really trying but I just couldn't get there - "there" being the $.49 each on the Secret deodorant. Are you saying there was/is a $2.00 off coupon floating around out there? I can't find those older coupons.

I didn't start really trying to use Coupon Mom or getting serious about this "coupon thing" until about a month ago and I seem to be always missing the mark. Trying to get to the $3.00 instant savings at the cash register, I bought 3 ea Secret deodorants marked down to $2.57 at City Market and had 2ea $1.00 off coupons. While I did pretty well, coming out at $1.90 each, I probably could have purchased three each of another brand for less money.

One thing I am learning - the hard way - is that you have to read VERY CAREFULLY what brand and what type within a brand, is being advertised. Because I didn't read carefully enough, I didn't purchase Secret FLAWLESS, for the higher cost ($3.29 ea) at my store; and the math worked out like this: $3.29 x 3 = $9.87 - $3.00 for purchasing 3 = $6.87 - $2.00 for the dollar off coupons I had = $4.87 divided by 3 = $1.62 ea. So you see I never got near to paying $.49 each. I am running into this quite frequently.

One positive note is that I shop with "stocking up" in mind and I won't have to purchase deodorant for probably 2 years! I have been saving at least 50% on my groceries, which is good, but my goal is to get that $100 worth of groceries for 25 cents that Coupon Mom touts.

It's disappointing and exhiliarating at the same time, but is definitely a learning process for a 60 year old lady soon to be on Social Security! I need to do better.......

lininguff - I totally agree with you! I was the same way at first and totally misreading the coupons. It does take a little time to get the hang of things, but once you do, you will be so addicted!

You also have to be patient. I have realized I sometimes get too excited and I either don't read the ad right or the coupon, then I end up paying more than I should. Even though for a while I was thrilled to be saving even 30%-50% on things. Now all I want is for free! And yes not all is free, but close to it. I have also found that taking more trips per week makes it a lot easier. Instead of trying to get everything at once. Because then you can watch the prices and coupons better to make sure they are correct. And get on here everyday!

Also a little hint - if you are in the denver metro area there is one way you can get older inserts. Now don't gross out, because it worked for me for the first month to get me caught up, but its a little hard to do, so make your grandkids or someone help you if you need it.

El Jabel hosts the recycling cans in denver metro area. So what I did was I looked them up online and found the closest to me. The one by me is in a walmart parking lot and they have 14 big industrial trash cans that people throw their recycling into. The 1st night I went I met the very nice man who is in charge of that particular area, and he asked me whay I was doing. I told him I was unemployed and that I am taking the coupon inserts so I could save some money. And I really thought for sure he was totally going yell at me or something. But he told me I have his permission to dig in there anytime I need my coupons as long as I don't let me kids jump in the cans! lol Then he told me where I could go and collect cans even to take to king soopers to make a little extra money.

It was a great way to stockpile old inserts that I didn't have. I don't do it much anymore because you never know how old the inserts are going to be and theres no guarantee you will get the ones you need. Plus i was starting to end up with 15 or more of the same inserts. Now I just buy 7-10 papers at the dollar store.
anyway - hope that helps a little.
