    Default Whatcha growin?

My lettuce has been producing for about a week now, and we have broccolli crowns. I know you Southerners had a jump start on us in the North, so what's been coming out of your garden? Are you canning yet? I've been seeing canning jar coupons coming out.

funny this year my lettuce is not doing much at all and I don't know why. I planted radishes, carrots, tomatoes, cherry tomatoes,3 okra plants(started w/4),lots of cucs, thought I would try brussells again,corn,peas(2kinds),green beans, squash(green and yellow),bell pepper & 1 banana pepper. I also live in the North, so to early for ccanning, but I will be. Do you can and what else did you plant beside broccoli(never had luck w/it or cauli)?

I am so jealous reading about all your gardens. When I was growing up, my mom had a vegetable garden that I got to help tend. Since then, I have always wanted a garden. Before purchasing this house in March, DH and I never had a place we could have a great garden. We moved in mid March and had enough home improvement projects that the garden got put on the back burner. To be honest, I think we were both just worn out. I planted flowers like I always do, but that was it. Hopefully next year, I tell you about all the wonderful things I'm growing.
This past year, I received a pressure cooker/canner for Christmas. I was able use it for the first time last week to can strawberry jam. I get a lot of my fruits and veggies at the local farmer's market. I have also already made a few loaves of zucchini bread. YUM!

This was my first ever gardening attempt and it's not bad so far! My carrots and peas didn't do a thing, but my radishes were beautiful, my garlic is so far so good, my pumpkins are MASSIVE (the leaves obviously. can't wait til they start to bear fruit!), my beans are growing, my pepper plants are thriving, and my cucumbers are on their way. Even my lettuce, which I ended up planting too late, is growing very well. I just wish I knew what I did wrong with the carrots. I was so looking forward to eating them fresh and pesticide-free! Maybe next year.

Well, here on the edge of civilization, in the far far north, it has just passed the frost season, but I am so excited. I have 5 different tomatoes, califlower, peas, carrots, beets, cabbage, potatoes, green peppers, zucchini, onions, jalapenos, and pole beans planted. I usually put mostly fairly matured plants in the ground. Otherwise I wouldnt have enough time till fall frost to get a harvest. The saying where I live goes.... The Northwoods, where there is 9 months of snow and 3 months of rough sledding. Its not far from the truth.
