Wow I just had flash backs of 15 yrs ago when I was in the UK and the Mad Cow scare hit the market. Man, did that kill beef sales, unless the beef was half price or less and then all those so called careful consumers who demanded they took the beef off the shelf suddenly decided that the risk was worth it... Good free advertising for the stores that have banned it from their shelves though..

    Add Kroger to the list:

No. 1 grocer Kroger relents, ends 'pink slime' use - Business - Retail - Food Inc. - msnbc.com

I am also happy to report, I found out I was correct in my assumption, Kroger store ground beef does not contain pink slime.

I have seen snippits about this Pink Slime........honestly, I paid zero attention as I thought it was some sort of horrid dessert. I had no idea it was in the GROCERY STORE meat counter........sigh.

Well I said earlier today I wasn't going to shop for awhile and low and behold, I found myself in Kroger. They were marking down all the ground beef, even Laura's Lean Beef. I asked if it had pink slime. Laura's didn't, but Kroger's did. I bought it anyway. We've been eating it all this time and we're not dead yet. And I couldn't resist the markdown.

Oh while I was there, I also got 3 pkgs of Johnsonville breakfast sausage links marked down to $1.49/pkg.
5, one lb bags of Kroger rice marked half off to .45 ea.

Uh oh, so which is it? Also, I wonder if Meijer's contains the slime.

Chocolatefrog, I know that Kroger's are regional, so it may be that my store had it and another region doesn't. Ask the butcher, that's what I did.

Kroger in store ground beef, meaning they grind it at your local store, does NOT contain pink slime. The ground beef that is shipped already ground to the store MAY contain pink slime. Krogers is now removing pink slime from all their ground beef. HTH.
