Default I ate it and lived

So yesterday DH wants some chicken noodle soup for lunch. Now I've had a half a case of this in the basement that I've meant to get rid of. The date of the cans is 2002. He brings one up and says, "it's canned, it should be ok." So I looked it over, no rust, not bulging. I thought to myself, "If we were in Nuclear Winter would I eat this?....Heck yea!" So I figured if he was game, I'd chance it. I opened it and it didn't spurt. (another sign of spoilage) It didn't smell bad, so I made it and boiled it at least 5 minutes. We ate it and lived. What's the point to this story? I have no idea.

I have to admit, I used expired canned goods and some boxed things too. I never got sick yet. I think a lot of the exp dates are on there because
the government requires it and they try to play it safe.

Wow, 10 years! That is a bit extreme for me. You are braver than I am. I will eat exp cans just a couple of months though.

You are very brave! I am not sure anyone in our house (even in a nuclear winter) would have eaten that. What brand was it?

I eat expired foods all the time. I haven't died yet. Although just tried some coconut milk that had been in fridge for awhile and it had fermented and not in a good way. Good thing a only took a sip.

I really think I could be a freegan, but DH would totally freak out. I always say "If you haven't eaten food out of a dumpster, then you haven't been poor enough."

I will eat "expired" foods too (who cares what the date says if it's still good, right?), but at least I know where that food's been. I definitely couldn't eat discarded food unless I watched the person (a friend or family with no oral diseases) discard it, and by discard it I mean put it on their plate and say "I'm done" (or if it's DH, just put it on his plate.. lol).

I'll eat things past their date: the length of time kinda depends on what it is. Dry goods and canned goods that are not more than 6-12 months over, yeah. Dairy that is over 2 weeks old? Maybe it's ok, but I'm not that brave!
Can always use cheese, high fiber product, soup and razor Q's
