Default If they only knew $5 was sitting in their driveway . . .

Every once in a while, my newspaper throws out an advertising supplement in driveways. It is usually a grocery ad and some other misc. ads. We don't get it every week or on any schedule. And sometimes, my neighbors will get one and I won't. Anyways, this week it had a coupon for $5/$30 at our grocery store. It is killing me to see all these little papers still in people's driveways. Today, I went on a walk with my kids and picked up a few (only 4, I left a lot more). They've been in the driveways since Wednesday, so my thought was they are fair game now that people have had time to pick them up. I hope that is okay. I mainly took them from houses that looked vacant. I'd love to take more, but I'm just a little hesitant.

I can unstand what you are saying. It would be a shame to see them go to waste. I would think after this many days, you would basically be picking up trash. Tough call though.

I agree. When we cleaned up road trash for the Boy Scouts that was the same rule. If the papers had been laying there for days, they were trash. No coupons here so that wasn't an issue. If the Boy Scouts considered them trash, I think you can too.

I agree, tough call but if people really wanted them they wouldn't leave them there for day outside.

I see the same thing in town. I seriously want to ask dh to stop so I can grab them. He'd think I was crazy though. I live in an apt. complex. Sometimes we ge them but more often we don't. I see them sitting in people's driveways all week long. Kills me on coupon weeks Maybe I need to start taking a walk and collecting them

That's what I do......amazing how many people let them sit there and do not use them or recycle them if they are not going to use them.

I say take them. If anyone questions you, tell them you live nearby and are picking up litter to help the appearance of the neighborhood.

I was just going to say the same thing.

When I take my evening walk, I always bring a plastic bag and a cloth bag. If I see any aluminum cans or plastic bottles, I put them in the plastic bag to recycle them and get the deposit fee back. If I see any coupon inserts in driveways or at the coffee shops/car wash, I pick them up as well. This also gives me a chance to scan my Extra Care Card at CVS as it is only about 4 blocks away.

Just for the record, I want to clarify that I would NEVER take someone's paid newspaper subscription without permission. These were strictly a free advertising supplement.
