Default Did you change your batteries with the time change?

Wow, I totally forgot to change out the smoke alarm batteries. Usually do this when we change the clocks, fall & spring. Got up this morning, and there was chirping coming from youngest sons room...the smoke alarm! A friendly reminder.

Some of you are lucky enough to not have to change time .....So, just a friendly reminder, change your batteries in smoke alarms, carbon monoxide detectors, etc. With all the money makers going on at walgreens recently, there is no excuse, go get new batteries

Actually had to do both of them two months ago because they were beeping at me and driving me bonkers!....for the life of me I couldn't figure out what the beeping was because I never heard either one of them do it before....

I don't usually change them when I turn the clocks back...mostly because they chirp at me when they get too low and that was not very long ago for most of them. We test them now and then to make sure they are working and that no one has left out a battery (gotta watch those kids sometimes).

I am a firm believer in keeping them up and running....all 4 of them.
We have one that is too close to the kitchen though and it goes off every time we overcook anything.

Have an Carbon Monoxide Detector and a fire extinguisher too. So far the Carbon Monoxide Detector has saved our lives twice in the past 10 years.

One of my dogs is terrified of that chirping. When I find my dog hiding and tremblling behind the bathroom toilet.....I know I need to go see which smoke detector is chirping.

In my old apartment, the fire alarm would go off everytime I took a shower, so I had to shut if off using the breaker since it was hard wired in....always cracked me up when it went off!

Great reminder!! We too have a smoke alarm upstairs in DS's room and everytime I have the oven on 400 or higher for more than 10 minutes it starts going off.
Also, check the dates on Fire Extinguishers. They are good for 10 years. If older than 10 years they need replaced. If you don't have the money to purchase new ones you can get them for free at most Fire Stations. October was Fire Prevention month and a lot of fire companies purchased tons of new alarms/CO detectors/fire extinguishers. If your fire extinguisher is between 5-10 years old, flip it upside down and take a rubber mallett and pound the bottom of it to loosen up the chemicals on the inside. They are meant for onetime use only.

That is one hot shower and DH says I take lava baths. Never got it that hot, though.

Get a couple asap. They are not very expensive at all.... Ive seen them for only $5. each and they really increase your chance of getting out in case of a house fire.
