MY MIL completely offended me last night

I know.. *gasp* , offened by MIL? Say its not so!

I've put up with a lot of little things over the years, things I should probably let go, but I'm not sure why her comment about my coupons made me so very mad?!
She referred to them as a "collection" and wanted to know how I picked which one I was going to use? Because i have SOOOooOOoo many. I asked her what she meant and she said "well, theres just so many coupons in there "I" would never use, I was just wondering how it was saving you anything?" (insert snorty laughter). ME: What? I looked around her kitchen, which is jam packed full of glade candles, snack foods, brand names of everything...but theres no coupons "SHE" will use, so therefor I MUST me wasting her sons hard earned money. She is getting remarried next month and before she met this guy (like 6 months ago) she was hellbent on learning how to coupon, but now that she has this guy, its just a stupid thing for me to do because she didn't save any money using coupons (she actually wouldnt listen to me, she would grab anything off the shelf she had a coupon for and not wait for a sale, of course she didn't save money). I can't believe I woke up mad over this. Can't bitch to my DH about his mom though, lol, that can of worms isn't worth opening.

Dont let it bother you too much. I use to get mad when the people I call friends would make fun of me about my coupons, but it just isnt worth it. Now I just smile and say, well, it works for me. Especially this past week when I bought 91 items and only spent a total of .75 per item. My freezer, cabinates and extra storage space are pretty full right now, so let em say whatever they want. Oh, and my hubby says MILs get special dispensation! LOL LOL!

i understand..i try not to take it personally if someone harps on my couponing...but it does leave a bad taste in my mouth for that person to have to make me feel badly about something i like to do, it feeds my family, and lets me be able to donate gobs of stuff....u know what couponing does for u, try not to let it get to u...i know its hard but just turn it around and feel sorry for her...just think about her spending 4.00 for deoderant and three fifty for toothpaste

hey jillynoodle, you make a good point, people are so quick to judge us on our couponing but they don't know how many others benefit from it also, food banks, neighbors in need and even some of our own family members. Crazy, you keep doing what you're doing and don't give anyone that much power to make you feel bad.

I know, you are all right, I don't even know why it bothered me so much, or why it still is this morning. Probably because I didn't have anyone to talk to last night, after we left her house we went to her daughters house...no venting there! But I do feel better now lol.

The others are right. Try not to waste any energy being mad at her regarding her comments; they may be in relation to jealousy. You stated yourself she didn't save any money couponing so she must be a little jealous. I understand how frustrating it can be when someone, like MIL, says hurtful things. Do a little reverse psychology and recall all the items you get for nothing or next to nothing and all the items she still pays full price for. We are here for you for any -itch session when needed!!

My MIL is so impressed with my savings....where I hear the negative comments is at the store with the people behind me.
