Default Thanksgiving tradition

It's still a few weeks away, but our family starts this on Nov. 1st, so I thought I'd post this today. This is fun for kids. Every year I make a paper tree out of construction paper and hang it on the wall. Every day in November, we write on a paper leaf one thing we are thankful for, and on Thanksgiving we reflect on them all. Kind of like an advent calendar. This year I found leaf cutouts at the dollar store when school was starting--the kind teachers decorate with. Try this with your little ones and see how much fun it can be.

We did this when my DD was little. I made the tree and background out of felt. We wrote one person/thing on silk leaves and glued them on. Each year we added new leaves and reviewed what we were thankful for in previous years.

Awesome! I keep saying eventually I want to make a permanent tree, I had thought of laminating the paper one, or constructing some 3D thing for a centerpeice, but for now we just take a pic when its done and throw it out. We have done this for 3 years now. DS is almost 4. He keeps asking when we're going to put the leaves on. Felt is a good idea, then I could re-use the tree and just make new leaves each year.

That's such a nice idea; wish I had done this while my daughter was little (she's 22)!

We take the scrapbook paper different sizes and on Thanksgiving everyone writes what they are thankful for...we then make a scrapbook out of it with pictures of the person and what they said under it.Its nice to look back on and see how things have changed over the years. And its also nice when some of those people are no longer here with us,it gives us some comfort. My kids are 24,23,21....you can start this at any time.
