Default Seasonal Jobs?

I am a substitute teacher and will have 3 weeks of no work for winter break. I am wondering if I should try to apply for a seasonal job? We don't need the money to survive but I would like to earn some extra for savings and will honestly be bored to tears for three weeks. Do you think that Macys, or one of the mall stores would be a good idea? I see signs up that say seasonal hiring so I am just thinking now would be the time to do it.

Anyone ever done this?

I've never done it but I know that Target and Toys R Us are hiring now. Sounds like a great plan to me. Good luck.

Personally, I think Macys would be a great choice ok, ok, the only suggestion I would have would be; do not get a job where you'd be tempted to spend your extra earned money...also, UPS - Fed-ex always hires for temp work too, FYI.

I worked at Macy's last year and I'd have to say it was my favorite job I've ever worked. They are so nice there. They even sent me a postcard asking me to reapply this year! Unfortunately I'm due December 8th, so that's out of the question! Otherwise I'd glady go back. AND they do have great employee discount days you can combine with coupons. I got some Martha Stewart sheet sets reg. price $120 for abour $17 each. I would try them out. Their seasonal work starts around Thanksgiving until January.

they might hire you, but i don't know if i would mention you are only going to work there for three weeks....don't most places want you to give 2 weeks notice if you are going to quit? a lot of places that might want to train you for a week or so might not want to hire you.

not trying to be negative; i just try to think out all the possibilities.

I worked at Best Buy for a about a year, but started off as a seasonal worker. Best Buy requires a commitment of 3 months from their seasonal employees. I loved working for the company and the employee discount GREAT!!! So if you are looking into buy a new electronic purchase this may be for you . Seriously on most items you paid whatever the company paid. It's pretty busy at retail stores and most times you are required to work holidays if they are opened.

I worked for Kohl's part-time -- nice place to work and great discount.

Many years ago I worked part time seasonal at Macy's in the perfume department. It was one of the most fun jobs I've ever had! Could you work weekends or nights after the three week stint? That would make you more marketable for a seasonal job, if they knew you would put in some hours up to Christmas. Best of luck!

Look for catalog and warehouse seasonal jobs as well. We have a Harry and Davids catalog warehouse that is always in need of seasonal help taking phone orders and customer service. Even have a mommy shift from 8 am - 2 pm. Also mall kiosks, like Hickory Farms, are good places to try for holiday work.

As stated above, it would be a SEASONAL job, not one where I'd need to give 2 weeks notice because I'd only be working for a few weeks
