I purchased pro-active for my son and it really is very good. you can get a good deal when you see the commercials, usually like $20, i actually saw one on t.v just yesterday, they're giving a free travel size also when you order it now. HTH

I had acne bad a few years ago and nothing cleared it up except meds from the doctor. But that eventually got too expensive.

I tried EVERYTHING over the counter. Nothing worked. It either burned my face, left it dry or oily. Tried that Proactiv and SkinId they advertise on the TV too, and it sucks. Well, at least for me it did. Finally my doctor told me to try plain Dove bar soap, washrag and a light scub morning and night. After two or so months my face started to clear up. Doc said because I had sensitive skin the OTC stuff was just irritating it more.

yep, ProActive is benzoil peroxide and witch hazel in fancy bottles. (you can look up the ingredients on their website).

there's no magic cure to get around cleaning your face. Just building the habit. Sometimes a person can UNDERmoisturize which will cause a breakout. Using a waterbased moisturizer with an spf will protect your skin too. I also recommend seeing a dermatologist or even a general practioner. It does take an antibiotic sometimes to get rid of the acne. You'd be amazed at what a $4 bottle of pills will do for your skin.

Great thread! I have mild acne breakouts. I plan on trying the Cuticura at Walgreens. It sounds like a really good product. I like the fact that it doesn't dry your skin out after using it.

I suffer from Menstrual acne- I am 25. I went to the dr.- he put me on a cream-AVITA-it helped but did not get rid of all the acne. Then he asked me how much water I drinked- I told him not very much. He asked me what my weight was and told me to devide that by 2- and that is how many ounces of water I should be drinking a day. Ever since I have been drinking that amount- my skin has improved-before- my body was not being flushed out properly- and with the hormones from my period were flodding my body basically- and now- I may have one pi,ple/zit- but they are very small and go away with in 2-3 days on their own now. I am no longer taking and Prescription meds to control my menstrual acne.

Love this thread.

I've had a similar problem with acne for the last few months. Went to the Dr (OBGYN) and she gave me BC (had some other issues too). Not working so far on the Acne or the other issues now that I think about it, but I digress.

Went to Walgreens and picked up the Clean and Clear Advance kit for that has a cleanser, moisteriser and spot treatment and it has worked to help clear up the two large pimples that looked like extra heads and several smaller ones that I've been battling for a week or so.

The cleanser has like 10% benzoil peroxide (sp?), the most I've seen in any product for this price and the other products have 2% and 0.5% respectively. I found a $5 Q on the Clean and Clear website that helped cut down the cost.

Don't drink any MILK or dairy products and see if you don't see a change in your skin. Just try it!! Worked wonders for me!!
