OMG... my mother!! She actually drilled holes in the floor and would take a box of tide and a garden hose to the house!! Oh... wait... does this make me a hill billy

Everything had to be washed, dried, and ironed and put back in the closets. Even the furniture went outside got washed (vinyl upholstery) then was brought back in... mattresses got beaten (my job ) That was spring cleaning.

Fall cleaning was mostly a swap out of summer clothes and bedding with winter clothes and bedding. Window washing... and cupboards. :faint:

I know of a lady who used to paste wax her basement floor as part of her spring/fall cleaning. Then couldn't figure out why her washer would skootch across the basement floor during the spin cycle.

I spring and fall clean... taking windows out, moving furniture around for appropriate placement for heating and cooling, ceiling fans, just a good deep clean. Cupboards are done about once a year. It's like Christmas because you forget about stuff waaaaaaaaay back in the corners.

Default I'm back! I've missed you guys!!

Ok, the house is almost clean and I can give myself some free time. I would of been back sooner but got a little sidetracked by a car search.

I did go drastic between baseboards, little corners in various nooks and crannies with my old toothbrushes (yes I'm one of those!) etc but let me tell you guys you would not believe the amount of dust I cleared out. We have allergies in this house and dust is not a good thing. I use a lot of Mr. Clean and Fabuloso lavender scent which does not seem to bother us.

AND we got a new vac using dh's Marriott points....a Dyson DC25 Blueprint ...didn't even cost a penny to ship! Dh was so happy he went around and vac every surface he could

Now if the temp will stay below 90 I'll hit the garage later this week.

Cleaning is never fun and thank goodness it doesn't have to be as complicated as some make it (Sylvia...we had a hole in our house in Puerto Rico for the hose as well!) Missy...wax on a basement....that is OCD for sure! For some reason this is the dustiest house we've ever lived in. I think its the dirt lot behind us (when we moved here onto our "conservation lot" it was a wooded area).

Also I get stressed out when all the flat surfaces are covered as they had been between school/coupons/misc. Now, I've worked out a new system for my cpns and dd has moved her school items. Dh is only home 2 days out of 15 right now so we'll excuse him....

So, I'm back just in time to get ready for the holidays!!

I hear ya with flat surfaces and clutter. Ugh. It seems like every time I clean off my island, some more papers, coupons, and receipts find their way there again. Not to mention kids toys and other miscellaneous items. I swear they multiply when I'm not looking! Stop up to PA and lets do a deep cleaning up here....I'll supply the hose!

Oh, I would love to clean out all of my cupboards and my attic. My back is a little fragile, so I just do small amounts at a time.

Before my daughter went back to school, she started purging her closet. I got inspired and purged mine, too - and then dragged out clothes in storage, the dressers, etc. We got about 4 garbage bags full of stuff! I am slowly sorting it for donation and to sell. It feels just great to get rid of things that I had been hanging onto!!

OMG, you guys are making me feel bad for being proud of mopping through the house today! Seriously though, noone here thinks a thing of tramping anywhere in the house in their muddy, etc. shoes so it gets out of control fast. I am a bit of a "SHE", yes I do read FlyLady but I haven't got into it yet. I'm very good at starting the day fairly organized and then getting to the noon hour with not much completely done, lol. I'm trying to keep myself on track to getting more organized and I am taking baby steps each day. Probably sounds silly to those of you that were born totally organized but it gives us something to accomplish doesn't it?

Just close the shades until spring...you will NEVER notice the dirty windows! Voila...problem solved!

LOL......you must of read the same book I did years ago about entertaining..... don't dust, just have a dark room with lots of candlelight and people will delight in the ambience you set.....LOL

btw for those who hate, and I mean hate to clean the shower here's a tip.....last night I sprayed the glass walls with the solution of 1/4 original Dawn dishsoap to 3/4 white vinegar....then today when I took my shower I had an extra scrungee which I wet and ran over the walls, next I used my shower head to rinse the walls and stepped out of a glistening shower.....is that not lazy or what? we have really hard water so I do this every few weeks.....

Dawn and vinegar is great for most of my cleaning from shower walls to the stove glass top and even the love bugs on the front of my car!
