My neighbor was having problems with ants in her kitchen...
She said she call a family friend who works in the pest control business, he told her to do this. She said it worked like a charm.

Seems so inexpensive, it's worth a shot.

1 part 20 Mule Team Borax or Boric acid
9 parts of a sweet sticky liquid like maple syrup, honey or Karo syrup

Mix the ingredients. Heating in a double boiler may speed the process. Take an empty margarine tub and poke 4 holes around the bottom edge (entry holes for ants to walk in).

Place a dollop the size of a quarter in the middle of the tub, then put the top back on. This mixture is not non-toxic, however it is less toxic, and that's the key to its success.

The ants carry it back to the nest where they feed it to the entire colony and wipe out the nest.

GOOD LUCK !

Default did you try the dish soap?

Around the perimeter of your home, pour dish soap & just leave it... we've done that around our back door where ants like to come in...

Diatomaceous earth works too.

Diatomaceous Earth Food Grade

Earth as a natural insecticide for the non-chemical control of aphids, whiteflies, beetles, loppers, mites, leafhoppers, and other insects, used around the house as an organic pesticide for the control of ants, cockroaches, silverfish, bedbugs, fleas, box elder bugs, scorpions, crickets, ticks, and many other unwelcome pests

Won't hurt you or your animals, can be used around food and garden plants.

First thing you want to do is make sure you are not attracting them. Make sure your garbage can is well away from the house. Make sure your empty coke cans are rinsed. Regularly clean grease traps and stove hood filters. Don't allow dishes to sit in the sink. Clean crums from the toaster, cereal spills in the cupboard...anything that you think might be attracting the little buggers.... etc. etc. etc.

After the Terro and Diatom Earth has done their job do a "spring" cleaning so you remove their scent trails. Then inspect the yard for ant hills and put the earth around them. If your neighbors have the same problem... put the earth around the perimeter of your property.. to make a "no go" zone.

Good Luck.

terro ant killer is awesome. we found the putting several small drops on the cardboard instead of one big one works better, more ants can gather round the good stuff and they don't drown in it. lol.

So glad the OP posted this question. I'm having the same problem in my kitchen and garage and I can't get rid of the darn things. I've used baking soda around the parameter of my counter top stove where I saw them coming in and than helped, but they also got in my pantry and I can't seem to find their source. Going to try the Tarro stuff to see if it works.

This worked for us. We have only had ants when it hadn't rained in a really really long time. We had them in the kitchen by the sink and the bathroom, again by the sink. We think they were coming for the water since there was none outside. So we set out "containers" of water outside and put bread or a little food scrap. Haven't seen them inside for 2 years. We just feed and water them and they stay out of the house. Sounds silly...I know.

thank you everybody. i went to town today and bought the terro. i got granules for outside and little hotel things for inside. i really hope this works for me. i honestly don't know why i have such an issue with the ants. i am an absolute clean freak. can't stand to step on crumbs so i know the house being clean is not an issue. alot of times, i find them in bags of food that were sealed. thanks again for all the suggestions.

ants come to water, if you have a leak even a small one it can draw the ants in.
i have cleaned, bleached and scrubbed, but they kept coming back until we sprayed the regent out side.

I've been offline for several days so I couldn't respond earlier...but I read recently that if you sprinkle Malt-o-meal around, they eat it and when the m-o-m soaks up the liquid, it explodes and kills all the ants.....harmless to all but the ants.

I've used "Grants Kills Ants" - I used this when we lived out west and they seem to kill the queen ant.

I am just itching just thinking about all these ants......
