Default Printing coupons - ink costs more than savings???

I have a question - for those of you who print coupons - how do you get around the fact that after printingg 2-3 rounds of the 'monthly coupons', you have to buy more ink for your printer? Do you have a lead on coupons or cheap prices for ink? I have a Lexmark X8350 printer (#32 & 33). I'd really like to make a go of this, but the price of printer ink is going to wipe out any savings I have on coupons. thanks!

ink is like everything else you look for and find the best price and who has the used ink return rewords. like i think staples has the ink return rewords right now but i could be wrong it maybe be office depot. i also used my shop rewords at office depot on ink. like when they have the buy batterys and get ten dollars reword bucks i don't think it is ten dollars for each battery but you know what i mean. i buy in bulk most of the time ether for the house or for neighborhood school since i moved to the city and adopted the neighborhood school like the little school close to the farm. just took two staples multipurpose 5000 sheet white paper boxes to get them started in the school year got them for 39.00 bogo. also used the coupons i printed here on moms to get some for the house.

My husband and I have this debate everytime I have to buy more ink or paper. As kemawolf said, I only print in a fast black print and I have my computer set up so it gives me a preview of what I am printing so I can see if a big ad is going to print after the coupon, if there is, I only put in a half sheet of paper so it doesn't print the full ad.

I also use Office Max ink cartridge recycling. I use to have a small Lexmark printer and found their ink cartridges very expensive so I would shop around to find who has the best deals or maybe refilling your cartridge may work, I know Office Max offers this service, for my ink it is cheaper to buy new cartridges and get the $2 in cartridge recycling.

I don't buy Sunday papers, so that is at least $12 a month I save, that is one of the benefits I tell my husband when he says anything about the price of ink.

    Cindy,

I use the same ink as you. I found it fairly reasonable at Meijer about $18.99 for the black. I only use the
black ink when printing coupons. You should shop around locally and check into the refill services.

All this conversation with ink made me chuckle at the chat that I had with the WalMart checker last week when I presented $79 in IP's.

Checker: "From now on, you need these to be printed in color - I won't take black and white again".
Me: "that's not the WalMart policy".
Me: "why would I need these to be in color? - will you pay for my color ink?"
    Checker: "Because people copy them"
Me: "and you don't think I can't copy them in color?"
Checker: "yes, you could, but they will print with "void" across the coupon if you copy them in color ~ black and white copies won't print that, so if you give me a black and white, I assume you copied these".
Me: "emmmmkay" (glad I bought bottle of wine on that WalMart visit).

I am very picky on my walmart cashiers. I shop there enough, and they only have a few lane open, so I get to know the cashiers. I know the good ones lol. I had an older woman argue with me one time over coupons. I had to call the manager just to prove I was right. She ticked me off, so I will never go to her again!!!!!!! I am sure she hates me since I told her manager in front of her that the employees should learn the policy

I have found the ultimate solution to the high cost of ink cartridges:
We buy a $9 bottle of black ink online at Ebay and refill ours ourselves.
You can do it about 5 times before having to replace the cartridge.
Thats a huge savings and the ink bottle lasts a long time.
Get your know it all Mr fixit hubbys to give it a try!!
