The answer varies greatly. It never works for me. The coupon for a generic item such as "milk" is almost always coded to attach to the name brand item in this case Keebler cookies. The register will the beep if you have already used a coupon on that item. Occasionally the coupon is coded not to attach to any item and the coupon may beep or not beep depending on the store. Personally I never try it anymore, but some people have luck.
