    Default Wal Mart Help Please

I live in a very rural area and don't have very many grocery stores to choose from. I hear people posting on here about the great deals they are getting at Wal Mart and stocking up. Well, I went yesterday armed with my coupons and didn't see anything that I could really save big on. Am I missing something?
    thanks!

I'm in the boonies too. You get the best mileage at Walmart by pricematching the deals from surrounding larger towns with more stores and likely better deals. I am thinking about subscribing to the paper from the much larger town where my girls live. I know they advertise that you don't need the ad to to pricematch but I like to have paper ads to study, and it saves trouble if you have it on you. They will pricematch at least a 30 mile radius....don't know the official limit though.

I also live in an area like that. We have one grocery store in town and if I drive 40 either north or south we have walmart, sav a lot, kmart, &neimans.
I have done the comparison shopping at all these stores and walmart is always cheaper except on meat. Meat at sav a lot is cheaper and good.
I guess it depends what items you are looking for to get the best deals.

Most of my savings doesn't actually come from coupon redemption. It comes from deep sales with coupons and hopefully a store promotion to go with it. I call that the Tri-Fecta of savings. Coupons actually play a small part of your savings, but combined with everything else, it adds up to quite a bit.

Example: 2 weeks ago I shopped at Meijer... My total before q's and discounts was about $60. After sale prices and coupons the total came down to $19. Great Savings, HUH? However, only about $18-19 was coupons and some of those were Meijer coupons... the remainder was buying the items we use at the deepest discount I can get.

Now, I am and always have been a sale shopper and a coupon redeemer, so I don't consider the $40 savings as actual savings, because I would never have paid the full price of $60 for all that food anyway, personally I don't keep track of my savings because I already know that I save a lot and it's an extra step that I know I won't follow through with.

My advice is just to keep trudging on, and as you learn more tricks of the trade, your savings % will go higher

I also live in a rual area ...we only have Walmart and a Brookshires.......I have to drive 40 miles if I want the big stores like Krogers,Albertsons,Target,Aldi, etc Mine will pm up to 50 miles(ask and see what your wm range is). Most of my savings come from pm and if I have coupons on top of that...then that is a bonus for me.I also like to take the ads with me(just in case). Example: Kroger two wks ago had Ragu as part of their mega 10 which ended up being $1.28 ea...I had $1/2 coupon so they ended up costing me .78 a jar. This wk there are great prices on bananas and grapes at Aldi...though not something I can stockup on...it is something we eat "alot" of.And by pm I'm saving time and gas.As you keep learning....you will see the savings and your stockpile build. We are here to help so just keep asking us and read all you can.
