Safeway Shoppers.. QUestion

I dont know if there are many safeway shoppers out there, but i want to get in on the good deal they have going this weekend with the get free eggs, muffins, bacon and.. one more thing.
Anyways, my DH saw on a website somewhere that if you want to spend the required $50.00 that its easier to just buy a gift card.

Can anyone verify that this is actually legit and has worked before in the past?

It says right on the coupon that the $50 excludes gift card purchses so I don't think this will work. However, when I have gotten free deals from Safeway/Vons in the past, the items that are free DO count toward the $50....

Whoops, just read the fine print on the coupon again and technically club card savings and vons store coupons are excluded from the $50- that being said, I have used these kinds of coupons in the past with coupon friendly cashiers without them ever giving me any kind of trouble with this (never read the fine print before!). So, as with many things, it will probably be a VMMV kind of thing.
